Anglesey Abbey ... A winter light display

We have spent a long weekend at Cambridge a place we love to visit , the reason for going was to visit Anglesy Abbey, we had tickets to see the lights displayed on the trees .
It was well worth it even if my hands were frozen stiff from taking photos without gloves on the coldest freezing night of the year so far , Brrr .
We started at the Abbey following the footpaths lined with candles to guide us on our way ..

then a much needed stop for some music, hot chocolate and mince pie, there were two places set aside along the route for music and refreshment ..

This is only a few I took almost 80 photos altogether ,I hope you enjoyed seeing them …

Great pics , Amy ; I remember that Prunus in the second photo , it was amazing .
We went to see the snowdrops there last year .
Fingers are suffering earlier than usual this year I think .

Thank you Amy . . . I had no idea that the Abbey put on "lighted evenings" - will have to go next year! Sorry you got so cold. I don't suppose you managed to fit in a visit to the Fitzwilliam museum? there's a gorgeous exhibition at the moment of beautiful calligraphy.

Thank you everyone I'm pleased that you enjoyed the pics . If we go another year I will deffinately buy some of those fingerless gloves at least a part of my hands would be warm , I took some photos along the river stretch towards the mill but they didn't come out very well , Driad we have been told that the white silver birches look fab when the red tulips are in flower growing under them , we didn't get time to go to the Fitzwilliam Sheila , I would have liked to see the Calligraphy , I use to go to the museum often when I worked and lived near Cambridge ..

Yes I did Amy, they were wonderful. Were there many people there? I wouldn't mind seeing more of your 80 pics:-)

Thanks for sharing with us Amy, how beautiful the trees look, your pics remind me of nights on summer holidays when we were children, the trees always had coloured lights making them look really ghostly. I love the last one especially......hope you've thawed out and got your log burner roaring away....:0))

Thanks Nariz it was a lovely magical evening they also had some performers dancing in Fluorescent outfits that glowed in the dark I took photos but if you cant see them moving it isn't the same as seeing them :o)

I've always wondered about garden lighting, whether on this scale or one's own back garden - do the plants mind? j I mean, night's a time of rest and recuperation for them too; does having lights on at night affect their health and growth?

That's an interesting question Fran , I haven't noticed any difference in the growth of trees where there are street lamps , I suspect they switch these lights off at the Abbey as soon as the paying guest gone home , the NT wouldn't want to waste money on electric at night .

That was a sight worth shivering for!
Many thanks because we can also enjoy it in the warmth of our homes.
Killerton House near Exeter also N.T. used the same effects on some of the oak and beech tress in the grounds creating a really spooky yet magical effect.

Thanks Wildrose / Lincs/ Rose . perhaps the NT are doing this more now Wildrose they must make thousands of pounds in one night , Lincs the steward thought we were going the wrong way when we started to go round again instead of the exit lol .... You will have to tell your cousin Rose funny because the day before we caught the park & ride into Cambridge and were chatting to a couple of the local ladies and they hadn't heard of it either !

I so understand why you wanted to see it all again. I felt exactly the same and didn't want to leave it all behind.

Hi Ami, what a nice trip you had :)
I was wondering how will the story develops as at the beginning the atmosphere over there was grim, but what a beauty, when all in the winter park and woods is illuminated.
