Saturday evening was the high light of the horticultural clubs social calender of the year , the annual dinner .

Half a dozen of us had the previous month booked a meal at the decided venue to check the food out in order to make out a menu of choices for our members to choose from before the day so that the restaurant was well prepared ..

My husband and I had arranged to pick up two other people from two different villages on the way .

We arrived at the restaurant peeped in the window to see where everyone had gathered , no sign of them in the bar , we looked through to the restaurant and there they were having just finished their starter course ! we were an hour late , how did four people get it so wrong ? we each had a time schedule ! they had to wait while our starter was cooked ( we had whitebait ) before they could serve the main meals …
The meal was excellent thoroughly enjoyed by everyone .. we all had a lovely evening despite the bad start ..

A friend pushed a bag under my chair with what he said were Indian Sweet Corns he thought I might like to try to grow them , he then told me they were 5 years old , so wish me luck ! there are 5 different coloured ones , in different shapes and sizes ,this is a photo to show you …….

I will let you know if they grow …….

That's interesting Skips ,I would like to know more about the corn i'm not even sure if you can eat any of them or if they are purely decorative , please let me know anything you find out , the ones 3rd from the left are shaped like a Strawberry ... I have put a doz. seeds from each cob in to soak overnight before planting them ,if you are interested in having a few seeds let me know ........
I have a feeling we will be having our legs pulled for some time to come Barbara especially as my husband is Vice-chairman .. LOL...

Hi Amy

Better late than never I suppose - I'm glad the evening went off OK in the end.

I've seen the various colours of sweetcorn in garden centre magazines but not in real life - they look very interesting - fingers crossed that the seeds will grow

Good luck.

Amy....hope you have fun watching your corn establish and produce a crop.

I've seen these types of corn in Canada/US and they've been used for decorative purposes...not sure if they are edible though. Often they are used on wreaths and displays around thanksgiving time (Oct/Nov). They are often coupled with the ornamental gourds too.

They are very attractive....it will be interesting to see what you discover about these varieties.

They do look like jewels San you wouldn't think they were 5 years old they have kept very well :o)
Thanks for some info. W.lass I thought they might just be for decoration they would look good in a basket in the kitchen ,I do have some Gourd seeds to set as well , maybe I could go into business growing and selling them to Florist shops ...LOL...

LOL: very funny story, I have arrived at a cinema with booked tickets a month too early, saw a film which we had never heard of and the management never said a word to us, it wasn't until we checked the tickets and obviously didn't see the film we had booked for that we realised. that was a few years ago and I am still getting my leg pulled about it. We did eventually get to see the proper film. lol. The Full Monty it was on tv last week and I watched it in bed with the OH we laughed our socks off at it again. Hilariously funny. Well worth the wait. Glad you enjoyed your evening also.

LOL... I'm glad we aren't the only ones that do things like that Olive , I'd like to have seen your faces when the film started ... I once walked into somebodies front room because the window was so cluttered I thought it was an antique shop ,I've never lived that one down :o))

LOL:O) Amy, I am going to show my age now, when I used to go to the cinema many many years ago, they always showed a short film before the main picture, I thought that was what was happening when we went a month early. But it kept going and going and going, when it was into about 2 hours of it I think we realised what had happened and we looked at the tickets. What a laugh we had, a film free albeit not one we would have gone to watch. There were only about 8 people in the cinema. What a giggle it was afterwards. The OH has never let me live it down.

Sandra , would you believe I actually had to push past the man whose house it was because he was leaning in the doorway , he followed me in and said " can I help you " I told him what I was looking for and he said " this isn't a shop it's my house " I nearly died ! he was so nice , he reached up onto one of the old beams and said " is this one " I said " yes " I said can I buy it off you , he said " no , I'm giving it to you because I know that you will look after it " it was a French Night Latch Key , I ran up the street to meet my husband ,clutching it in my hand , I opened it to show my husband ,he said " where did you get that " I said " don't even ask " ..LOL...

He was kind Olive , he could have been very rude , it was strange that he should have one of the keys that I collect you don't see many of them he didn't know what it was until I described it to him , he then went to the beam where it was hanging and said is this one ? lucky me :o))
