Garden visits

Recently visited Wollerton Old Hall Gardens and Dorothy Clive (D.C)Gardens. Wow! They were magnificent but understandably at this time of year they looked a bit past it! I was unable to take any photo’s of any plants close up as there were so (too many) visitors and the visit to D.C was done in the pouring rain! Needless the say I will be going back again next spring when everything is looking fresh and colourful.

I only live about 10 mins drive from Wollerton Old hall but this last year has been so busy that not managed to go see it. Keep meaning to. Near there is a really nice garden nursery that I did find at Ellerdine called Oakgate. Has a cafe with very pretty view of a large pond with bridge going over it and nicely planted garden around it. Funny you should say that, I absolutely love Oakgate! I took a gardening friend there and she's was entranced! It's tucked away, has good value plants and reminds me of the good old fashioned nurseries and not those hideous garden centres that sell everything under the sun except for good plants!!

Don't miss Dorothy Clive in spring up in the Dell when the rhodies and bluebells are out. And there used to be some blue Meconopsis down near the waterfall as well. Photos please when you go!

Never heard of it so I googled it - it's a beautiful place :)

Found Oakgate by chance as the sign on the main road which we kept driving pass gives no clue what a lovely nursery that it is. It was my birthday in July and I told hubby I wanted something for the garden. We had gone to the Percy thrower garden centre in Shrewsbury. Was not impressed, half the plants looked dead. So we thought would follow the sign and see what was there. So glad we did :-).

Jenlewis - I've been a couple of times during the holidays and they have a new supplier of large ceramic glazed pots. Absolutely gorgeous- I got one on my Christmas list!! I just love the feel of he place and the staff are very friendly. It's my hidden gem!

Lol. I saw the pots. We nearly bought one but hubby likes blue pots and the one I liked the shape of wasn't blue. The price of them was really good that can understand Christmas list. It is hidden but was surprised how busy it was day we went.

I went to look around the garden next to the cafe a couple of weeks ago. I think they belong to the house on the site. The gardens were very well kept and way more bountiful than Dorothy Clice garden I just visited!!

I'm really happy, I've just phoned Oakgates garden nursery to see if they allow dogs. Sorry I'm one of those weird owners that like to take them with me if can. If I can't then my daughter comes and sits with them but I don't like to impose on her to much. Anyway, they are more then happy with dogs so I plan to nip down there soon and I will try and take some photos.
Amsterdam, you can only do what you can do, you have got 2 full time jobs there with kids and working.
