Hello, well the idea is that they sign up to thank or clarify once they see we don't bite. They can't reply as guests. You will also notice that some of the questions that were "guest" questions go on to have a name against them - this is the guest going on to signup. We also thought we had it so guests have to sign up to ask another question but there seems to be a problem with our logic for this which we will hopefully make better on Monday or Tuesday.

We are working hard to get this right. In the mean time please feel free to use the hide and show guest questions option we have just added. We have also just implemented Drc726's first suggestion and welcome even more feedback/suggestions via the contact us link at the bottom of the page.

Can Peter and I ask a personal favour and ask for no more comments on this blog post. Please send in your suggestions using the "contact us" link at the bottom.

Grows on You is a gardening website, and we assume everyone has some interest in gardening. However, most of you agree that as you've made friends on GoY, occasionally you want to share non-gardening blogs and photos with your friends.

The filtering is not an excuse or an invitation to start posting all sorts of things. Our guidelines still stand, if you find you have signed up for some reason other than gardening this website is probably not for you.

Someone occasionally posting about another hobby or subject is not the same as someone who joins to write mainly about their other hobby. We will be swift to deal with the later case if it is flagged to us.

Maybe the term 'filtering' has been taken as a negative, but that isn't how we see it. GoY is too large for most people to look at everything posted and we think filtering is a necessary step towards making your time on GoY more personal and interesting.

If you could think about the following and give us feedback using the 'contact us' form we'd really appreciate it:

If you don't want to see the non-gardening blogs but aren't filtering, what isn't quite right with the filtering? e.g. would you like your 'favourites' blogs always shown?

When we wrote the community guidelines in consultation with the community we were asked to put in point 4 - http://www.growsonyou.com/pages/guidelines.

The reason I said "a certain number of non-gardening blogs from regular members" was that the general feeling during the writing of point 4 was that as you made friends on GoY there are occasionally times you want to share something non-gardening.

'Filter' seems to be the wrong word to have used. If you do nothing the site stays as it is. For those that requested the feature they now have the option.

As with all our changes, we watch and see how they get used and adapt to what people want.

We would love to hear all of your constructive suggestions via the "Contact us" link at the bottom. We will reply to any messages on Monday.

Thanks for pointing that out Moon_grower. We do have a section on the right of the Blogs tab called "News about Grows on You" but clearly need to make that more visible.

Pottygardener - just like the "like" system where you can't give yourself a "like" we thought it made sense to stick to the same for the "nominate".

Ian, nothing has changed yet. And, nothing will change in the way you use the site. So rest assured.

Once we have collected some classifications on the new blog posts we will look to let members choose to not see certain types of entries if they don't want. E.g. If you don't like the non-gardening blogs you would be able to stop those showing if you wanted.

Hello. Once you have liked a photo or blog the link will not be shown to you again on that photo or blog. You shouldn't have seen "I like this photo" on a blog though. Please message us if you see it again.

There shouldn't be any popup advertising on Grows on You. Please can you send me the name of the advertiser via the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page if you see a popup advert so I can investigate.

Along with Nickyt08's suggestion can I also suggest checking to make sure you don't have any adware on your computer.

Thanks Ian. You are definitely the first to wish me happy christmas this year! Regarding your question I have to say they aren't really "our guidelines" - they evolved from what the community wanted. The flagging system is part of that too and allows the community of members to report anything against the guidelines. I think it is working well.

Folks - Sorry for the bother. We have just made a change that will hopefully fix the funny narrow columns that only seemed to be showing in Internet Explorer 6. Let me know if you still have problems.

Alice, Ducky - shouldn't be doing that! Can you press the F5 button and see if that fixes things. If not, can you send us a message via the Contact Us link with the version number of the browser you are using so we can look into things for you. Ta.

Sorry all, we won't be going back to the old green boxes on comments. The blog and question page bodies have always had the green background we now have on comments so we didn't see it as too big a change. Please can you send in any comments on website improvements via the contact us form so we can keep track.

Dawn, if you click on the Garden Centre tab (or the shopping link at the bottom) you will see a list of categories e.g. Seeds and Bulbs. If you click on one of these you will see a list of things for sale from a bunch of different websites. If you click on a "Buy Now" button next to a plant or product we will take you to the appropriate section of the website where it is for sale.

Hello. If you are doing a site search (e.g. at the top of this page) you should see results for pittosporum. However, I suspect you are talking about the product search on the Shop page - we use a different search here (and have more work to do on it) and when there is no direct match from the vendors we support we try to do a fuzzy search which tries to get near matches. Clearly we are not there yet but please bear with us as we are working on some major improvements to this section. Sorry.

Private messages are private. We will only provide them to the authorities if we are required to do so by law. We would only look at a private message that was "flagged" to us by a member for inappropriate content.

Regarding the "censorship" I have no idea what this blog refers to by sending you to the favourite photo mentioned above... I deleted the offending sentence which was clear cut and definitely not appropriate for this website and flagged by several. If you were to see the sentence I deleted it would be clear why it was deleted.

Hello lilycoton. In answer to your question if you use the - character before and after a sentence it applies the strike through/ crossed out formatting to that sentence.

In this case I think you inadvertently used it in your smiley faces :-)

There should be a link to your favourite members on the page.
