Improvements to Blogging

Hello all,

Today we have put up some changes that we hope will make garden blogging much easier, especially the insertion of photos into your blog entries. Thanks to all of you who have sent in feedback over the months. All of these changes have been suggested by several of you over the last few months.

Draft Blogs

You can now save a draft of a blog entry and come back and finish it off later. Your draft will only be visible to others when you select the publish option.

Including Photos

You now have the option to upload a new a photo just for the blog, and which won’t be shown on your photo page. You can still insert existing photos but we’ve made that much easier by showing each photo to click on, rather than the title.

Preview your blogs

We’ve added a preview feature that allows you to see what your blog looks like (including how your photos look) before you publish it. Just hit the “Save Draft” button to see a preview.

I take this opportunity to introduce myself and Peter to all our new members and welcome you to Grows on You.

Cheers and happy gardening

Ajay

This is brilliant Ajay esp for someone like me who takes an age to write one .To be able to save and return is great and the feature of not having to download photos on homepage will make blogs more inventive .

Shall have great fun with it !

That is probably the best improvement yet, I think! Thank you both very much. My last blog took several hours to write, trying to find old photos. GREAT!

Ajay ~
Thanks. You've noted all the points I mentioned last week, with regards to blogs. How are you getting on with the other 21 ideas I sent you ? Lol

BB ~
You and David will both be able to preview your perfect paragraph techniques. Prize for the best paragraph ;o)

Thanks Guys...again. I really appreciate the new changes especially the adding of photos just for the garden section. Some of the pictures I posted as examples of plants in my garden were less than eye pleasing for my photo page. This takes care of that issue!! As usual, great job!!

This is a great improvement!

Before, I've had people commenting on the blog even as I wrote it!

Is there any way that more than 10 existing photos can be shown on the page when we're selecting them for inclusion in the blog?

4 Nov, 2008

That sounds good Idea FSG that way we can go through the Photos Quicker :)

Try it now. We have just put it up to 30. Hope that makes things easier. Ta.

Excellent Peter and Ajay. This will make things a lot easier.
Many thanks.

Careful Spritz. Just spend a little while in a darkened room before you start to write the Blog! We dont want to see you becoming all Blogged out!

Great change ajay. I was thinking the other day it would be nice to show a border in he garden changing over the course of a growing season but I wasn't going to plough through all my photos finding the ones from spring!

4 Nov, 2008

LOL Andrewr i did that a few days ago & iv over 2200 pics! The3 Pics i wanted were rite near begining in Feb :O Took a while2 find them wish id waited now lol :)

Andrewr ~
I ploughed through all your photos a while back to write my Harley blog.

As the blog describes, I got sidetracked a LOT, tempted by this plant and that plant. This tree and that tree. This Jellystone bear and that bike-riding hegehog.
Looking at your pictures was a real pleasure. :o)

I tried writing a blog yesterday but I couldn't get photos from the 'Browse' to appear in it, so I put them on the photo page and did it the 'old fashioned' way.
Could you tell me how to do it please ?

5 Nov, 2008

... and remind me how to spell hedgehog . Lol.....

5 Nov, 2008

Hywel, replied to the "contact us" message you sent in.

5 Nov, 2008

Thanks. I didn't think of looking there. I'll have to do it with the next blog. Sorry I'm so daft :o)

Great improvements - thanks guys :-)

Oh, this is fantastic!

I was beginning to dislike having to upload pics to my photos page, just for blogs. By the time I wrote a blog, the pics seemed to be history. Another brilliant innovation, guys!

5 Nov, 2008

Great! Now I won't feel so guilty having to put unrelated items on the gardening pictures page. Now, if I could just send a picture on a private message, I would be all set....

7 Nov, 2008

Much better - just tried it out and it takes half the time it used to. thank you.

Thank you! This makes life easier.

I will have to check this out. As a new kid on the block I am still learning. That google map thing near frightened me. I was sure it was going to zoom in and see all my weeds.

I am not the tidiest of people!

I am hoping for a <C> function.
Near forgot. On someones site I saw a "reminder" function -- things to do. How does one do that?

TIA Herb

A few other questions, one is rather big.

First off, I do see the improvements. Good move.

Question, if I want to re-edit something already posted, say I cannot find a picture and want to remember to do so, will saving it as a draft, kill the already posted blog?

In the words to describe the blog.- are we supposed to leave a blank in-between the search words or a comma?
Does it matter?

Lastly, if I had already published a Garden Magazine some fifteen years ago and it included a very good article that I included with her permission, subscription and hope of business. Could I put that up? As in the magazine, Bindweed (2 issues long) I put her copyright, date and name. I would do the same. I am not even sure if she is still in business and would try to contact her regardless.
%
I have four cartoons from my best friend that also was a first subscriber and he contributed the characters to match my story and dreams. Sadly they do not load up well and I would not diminish his artistry, but it is a question to copyright. Length of and etc. etc.
Are Edward Lears botanical drawings of the late 1800s allowable?

I think a page of guidelines would be helpful here.

Starting to contribute here is also beginning to bum me out. I now realize how bad I have been in connecting to people who really cared about me. Many have died, most have moved – but while I had a Nursery I connected and stayed that way. Not so for the last few years.

Thank you, for getting my brain cells moving once again.

Skyline ~
Your recent interesting comments on my blog ~ Beg, Steal or Borrow ~ are very good indeed. Keep up more of that kind of writing and you are definitely on the right track. GoY is a very caring community. I hope you had a good birthday. :o)

Skyline -

1. Re-edit of something already posted has no option to save as a draft so you cannot kill the already posted blog.

2. Both spaces and commas should work for the tags

3. If in doubt about copyright leave it out. I would say that all the examples you state above should not be included.

Thank you. Understood.

I might get back to you on one. It meant much to me and was drawn by someone who also knew the man I wrote about. It was a memorial to his life and strength and courage in dying. I am now going through the same cycle with another man I work for..Hence some of the posts I have made.
