hi islander
olearia macrodonta (newzeand holly) it grows well here as do other olearias. we have the full south west winds off the irish sea. but because of the wind we get very little frost and so can grow many succulents and other mediteranian plants.

There's no way in the world you need me to make you a path Flcrazy, I've seen pics of your garden remember!!!! But, we could pretend you need my help and then I could sit by your pond and keep the starlings away while I relaxed to the sound of the running water. I could wander along the paths and under arches while admiring your very interesting and beautiful plants. Then in the evening we could drink wine while keeping warm by the firepit. OK, I'm convinced, I'll get my flight booked!! lol

Wow! This photo has such intensity! Is this fall? I see seed pods and the sedum look like it has seeded also. Things have really grown.

Thanks Islander. If it wasn't for 24 hour summer sunshine, it'd be tougher. But i'm sure you'd agree, what a joy!

Hi Merlinbabydog,
Rather late answering this one as I've been away. We bought a Panasonic Lumix for our 12 yr old son, who is a fanatical photographer. You can take videos with it too. It has intelligent auto mode and Leica lens, doesn't mean a lot to me either but it takes stunning photos.Distant or close up the clarity is superb. My son takes photos like a proffesional and everyone comments how good they are. We submitted a photo on this site ( didn't know what the plant was - about the 22 /23rd Aug ), that he'd taken and someone messaged me just to say don't know the plant, but the photography was great !! You can get lots of excessories for it, it comes in around £100. Can take up to around 250 photos and 25 minutes of video. It's a DMCFX10. Hope thats of some use to you.

I really appreciate them. We dont have crickets or anything that makes sound but a night bird. Really quiet around here but for those spring frogs.

This picture really shows how well your garden is improving, Shahida.

A wonderful photo. The topiary silhouettes look super, too.

Is your path down the garden slightly curvy ?

I can't give up that tall grass. I love cultivation, but I agree, the wild is just as amazing.

Sure is. My compass garden is on this side, goes all the way down to a pond full of frogs. It was flat and when the landlord build a heated garage 25 years ago, the heat melted a deep sheet of ice on the permafrost and the ground sank for about 1000 ft and swallowed the garage. More common now as we heat up and the ground defrosts. People drill for ice shelves before building now.

Cinder block is a fav of mine. I'm making another new bed for flowers and herbs next year with just a square of cinder blocks. All my stone work is cement and so they match well too. :-) Even when I move you can pick up the block and go, the roots usually hold all the soil in so you don't lose anything!
