Any Suggestions????????

Hi guys~

I am about at my wits end. Every morning my faithful companion “Lizzy Kitty” and I go out and put nuts out for the birds. Unfortunately I am just not getting any birds at my table. : (
I must be overlooking somthing, any suggestions????

Do you think its because they see the cat ? Have you tried hanging nuts from the trees?

we have a sparrow hawk that hunt here. my dogs are very teritorial and bark at him. they think that only they have the right to stalke the little birds....;-))

yes,try hanging mesh feeders Yellowleaf...better for the birds all round as they can only get small pieces Whole peanuts can choke them ! : (

I would add some smaller seed. It is usually the smaller birds which will come in first and then the bigger birds will follow when they see the smaller birds. If you put out some millet it will encourage the smaller birds to come to the table.

hahahahah! Lizzy is sitting there with her smile turned away from you...and with a tiny little dribble of saliva on her lip...she's saying in birdlanguage..."Oh yesssss, birdies, come and try some of these lovely nuts....maybe I can coax you down here with me to see if there are any in the (slurp) grass!"
I agree with BB and Gilli...peanuts are great for bigger birds...but finches and sparrows like sunflower seed, or niger seed.. grow some sunflowers, cosmos and echinacea in your garden..the birds love them...but birdseed is the best stuff for the little birds...along with a source of fine grit and water... in winter they need a source of fat too. I buy suet balls at the grocery...the meat trimmings are formed into a ball and then rolled in cracked corn and seeds. The birds love it!
I loved your blog... enjoyed the subtlety of it! the pic is wonderful!
