Hello friends,
Gosh I need you.
1:It’s *ing with rain out there.
2:Yesterday evening while getting a little depressed about the extent of large pervasive weeds right at the bottom of our garden..
3 I noticed that the council has still done nothing about the Jap. Knotweed just the other side of our fence
4 There is never enough time or manpower (what i mean is, in a family of 5, I’m the only one who now and again has a go at it) to tackle jobs like these hideous weeds.
5 Boo hoo.
what have you all been up to today in the lovely UK rain?
and overseas, what’s the weather like?! I’m going to try and count my blessings now, that might help.
Send me a comment and cheer me up, pur-leeeeeeese! x

I'm going to need cheering up if its still raining next friday, dont want to be on vacation in the rain, and seeing how I will be over there its sounds like its a good chance of rain I wonder why we get so depressed when it rains alot other than we cant go out into our gardens, which is a biggie

I agree......am trying not to look out my window as well....fortunately as the wind is coming from due North its only having an effect on the hawthorn hedge at the bottom of the garden and a miniature climbing rose on the trellis, which I can easily tie in...My precious dahlias seem to be ok so far...I must admit to have spent a lot of time on GoY this afternoon. We have the heating on and I can't remember ever making a steak and kidney pie in the middle of July.....oh....I have the light on as well..
STOP PRESS; There is a moat round the lawn....eeekkkkk.....

Pondlady....I am sure the lovely weather will be back for your visit to the UK...what part are you visiting?
17 Jul, 2009
Amblealice I would have had the heating on, too, except our thermostat's broken which means the heating won't come on (or so hubby tells me!) so I had to put the electric fire on (eek!) for a bit to take the chill off. We didn't think the thermostat was a priority job at this time of year ... we do now! (We being the royal we!)

Reasons to be cheerful when it's raining:
1. I am not going on holiday in UK anytime soon
2. I don't have to water the garden
3. I don't have a dog so I don't have to take it for a walk.
4. I can stay on GoY for as long as I like without feeling I
should be doing other things (except housework and
that doesn't count!)
17 Jul, 2009
Well I'm just at the end of 2 weeks hol popping here there and everywhere, dodging the showers.Today has capped it off in fine style. Back to the ironing ready for next week :((.It's a standing joke at work-no one books off the same weeks as me as it always rains !!
On the upside Weeding, your gooseberries are filling out nicely :)
17 Jul, 2009
Sorry Weeding....not much cheerfullness here either! Soooooo much rain, for so many days and the wind is battering my plants and even blown some of my pots over. I hate looking out, they are taking such a battering.
We are lucky to have water I know, and being on a well here we sure won't run out anytime soon! Hey...may-be that is the positive side of this weather!
17 Jul, 2009
raining again here too, I dont mind though I now have lots of pots dotted round the garden, and the windows wide open its so fresh
plus like others have said I can be on GOY and not worry over the garden whilst hubby watches cricket...yawn yawn
x x x
17 Jul, 2009
1. the garden is being watered and not by me,
2. I can chat on GOY

reasons to be cheerful:
children on holiday : I can lie in.
no packed lunches to make
no uniforms to wash and iron
we can put wellies on and go splodging in the fields
doesnt matter if we get wet and muddy
can sit in the cinema and not feel i am missing the sunshine.
can plan what to buy + plant
and best of all can chat on GoY and not be reminded that i have to help with homework. :o))
17 Jul, 2009
Well i'm buying a canoe...:0(
17 Jul, 2009
LOL.
I am planning to dig out more Comfrey...but also, what to plant in the space! YAYY!!!
17 Jul, 2009
I've got a real reason to be over the moon today.
Its Peeing it down,
I haven't slept a wink all night.
Holly won't settle in bed,
And I haven't been in the garden once today.
Why am I so cheerful ???
Well, last night whilst I couldn't sleep, I put an add in Freecycle ASKING for a mobility scooter as mine was stolen and vandalised some time ago. :~(((
(if your not sure what Freecycle is, Mookins wrote a blog about it !!)
Not thinking someone would really offer us a one, how surprised was I when I fired up the pc. and there was an Email from a lovely kind hearted chap called Mike who was prepared to give me a scooter for FREE !! :~))))))))))))))
Let me tell you, I am exstatic this evening, I've been to collect it and its almost the same as the one I 'lost'
How good is that ?? :~)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
17 Jul, 2009
That is BRILLIANT, Ian! I'm so pleased for you. :-))
Long live Freecycle!
Maybe you'll sleep tonight? I do hope so. xx
17 Jul, 2009
So do I Barbara, so do I :~))
17 Jul, 2009
Glad you got a result on the freecycle Ian...good for you. Here's wishing you a good night's kip.
At least some of you have positive comments about the rain...thankyou for those...at least we don't have to water!
17 Jul, 2009
Very wet, cold and windy, getting dark early,on the plus side dont have to water and my lawn is green again........Pleased you have had some good luck Ian.......
17 Jul, 2009
I'm over the moon Fluff and Lincslass :~)))
17 Jul, 2009
Are you safe to be let out on one of those? Lol! :0)))))
17 Jul, 2009
not most of the time no :~))
17 Jul, 2009
I was feeling very sorry for the destruction on my garden like everyone else, especially as one of my troughs has been blown from a windowsill and smashed. Knowing that most of us are in the same boat makes it easier to bear and probably all the damage will recover. When I read about Ian it made me see what is really important. Ian I am over the moon for you and your brilliant news. Bless you, enjoy your cycle thingy.Love Sue :~)))))))))
17 Jul, 2009
Thanks Sue xxx
17 Jul, 2009

17 Jul, 2009
make sure it has a basket for all those plants you are going to buy. :o)
17 Jul, 2009
It has but its WAY to small.....LOL
17 Jul, 2009
Oh brilliant news Ian. I'm so pleased for you. Now you just need a large trailer to tow behind so you have somewhere to put all your plants.......LOL....There are still some lovely kind hearted people in the world........
#1 thing to be happy about.
#2 thing to be happy about......you aren't over here in the 100F heat watching all your plants wilt and shrivel. :o(
#3 thing to be happy about......you aren't watching your Douglas fir trees being eaten and killed by the Tussock Moth caterpiller as I am over here. :o(
18 Jul, 2009
Oh Gilli, that moth sounds a bit scary ? by the way I've just seen a trailer built especialy for mobility scooter on Ebay. How cool would that be?? :~)))
18 Jul, 2009
thx friends!
and today it's not raining! Shortly I'll be going out to attack weeds with shears and strimmer.
Last night after posting this I decided to "escape" and visit my sis and her dog in Bristol (see photo on GOY Frog's page, except the puppy is a massive energetic dog now of course - "Frog" is my eldest, btw)
but fortunately/unfortunately while I was browsing @ the garden centre (where else, lol) for a present, i got a txt from a friend which she'd sent at my request reminding me that I was meant to be babysitting her kids an hour later! Lucky for me I'd not yet started to whizz down the M5...
So I babysat, knitted, snoozed, and snuck back here at midnight.
In case any of you think I acted like a saint - I didn't, I need my friend's babysit for mine next week while I'm at work.
Hm, now I can hear the light pitter patter of something out there, let's hope it's a magpie on the porch roof and not more pesky rain. : )
Yours in a perkier mood, Weeding x
18 Jul, 2009
So pleased we could put a smile back on your face Weeding,
Nobody likes to be miserable (except my mother in law, apparently!) but she's gone home now Yipppppeeeeeeeeeeeee, on a sad note.........she's promised to come back again soon :~((
I refuse to be down hearted about it though, I'm gona book a fishing trip with my bro. for when she's due back LOL
18 Jul, 2009
ooh Ian she cant be that bad surely?
x x
18 Jul, 2009
Nah not really..................she's worse :~((
18 Jul, 2009
You are unlucky, Ian - mine was a Saint! I do miss her. :-(
18 Jul, 2009
Hee hee hee......I got married but I don't have a mother-in-law. :o)
I lucked out there didn't I?
Ian, that tussock moth caterpiller is doing lots of damage around here this year. Between the tussock moth, the spruce budworm and the mountain pine beetle, many many people are losing their evergreens. In a couple of years I don't think there will be any evergreens left in Kamloops. :o(
19 Jul, 2009
Glad you're feeling better Weeding...we had no rain during the day yesterday but VERY heavy showers again today. Lot of my summer bedding plants are badly beaten about, and my bowl of house leeks look very sad. Too much water? Wind? Cold? All 3?!!
So pleased to hear about your scooter Ian, you'll be whizzing everywhere now.
Gilli...no evergreens...sounds like it's drastic there. :-(
19 Jul, 2009
my mum in law is also a real gem, bless her heart we share seeds and plants and gardening tips...well she tells me and I take note hehe
raining again here but just after I planted out my Winston churchill Fuschias, they are starting to open up and are beautiful they look like purple frilly pants

Sorry Weeding, can't think of anything to cheer you up at all! Because I'm feeling just as depressed about the rain as you are! In fact I've just decided to stop looking out of the window because it's breaking my heart to see all my plants looking so bedraggled and battered. A couple of hours of steady rain followed by sunshine - okay; 24 hours of relentless downpour and strong winds - not okay! Let's cheer ourselves up with some guilt-free GoY browsing!
