Last Saturday I deserted my own family and went on a daytrip to Bath and Wells. My

live in Bristol, not far away, so I arranged to meet them there for some

I greeted my Dad with a turnip (what else?) and if you look closely you can see my Mum is clutching a bag containing some fennel plants she’s about to deliver to my bro’s garden.
Here are some more pics of the central Parade Gardens – there is a small entrance fee for non-residents, 70p or £1 I think, but you could keep going in and out with one ticket on one day. I think that was fair enough because they are so lovely (the gardens, not the tickets) By the way, my parents both said that Priory Park is a lovely place to visit if any of you are down that way – remember to have a look.

I’d be interested to know what that pinkish red piggy plant is, if anyone recognises it from this distance?

As you see here, they even have excellent striped deckchairs. I’d love to have one of those. @: )) – that’s me one day with a pink-rinse perm lounging sideways in the Bath gardens. Tee hee.
Of course, on the non-gardening side, there are loads of breathtaking buildings in Bath to admire…

And this last a flowerbed was on the other side of the city, snapped as we whizzed past on an open-top tourist bus, juggling with our bright orange headphones and trying to find the right button for a commentary in English. Mind you, the Serbian one sounded quite promising.

After I’d caught up on the family news and waved goodbye to them, the day was rounded off with a trip to Wells where we went into the cathedral.

Last time I was in Wells we were looking for a cafe and I just happened to step back to let a lady with a trolley pass and went straight into the water that runs down the streets from the well head, my foot was squelshing for ages, but i loved the place, the Cathedral was awesome and I found a relative buried in there...... well he had the same last name we could have been related :o)

I had a regular delivery there, (many moons ago) Its an awful place to drive round. Be kind to your bus driver if ever you go on a tour there. lol. Hello again Bob

that's funny u mention it Ian, cos our poor driver had a heck of a time even finding the right road into Wells. There was a lot of tutting from the back of the coach. : ((

It really is a difficult place to drive around, don't forget they didn't have luxury coaches in the roman era (when Bath was founded)

Ian, it's a dreadful place to drive around in a car too, let alone a bus :(
'Park & Ride' is the only way to go if it's just a day/shopping visit.

Excellent blog. The gardens look beautiful especially the one snapped from the bus. I love the piggies but have no idea what the plant is. I wonder how they get the plant to grow at all angles like that? Haven't been to Bath since I was a teenager and that was a very long time ago but we were on bikes so no traffic problems for us although I do remember LOTS of hills!

Loved your blog. I have very fond memories of Bath - although I've only visited it once, it was with my husband the year before we started our family, so the last holiday (in fact the only holiday) we ever had on our own! It's a beautiful place, thanks for the photos.
