Walking to work ...and a few odd shots

Walking to work ...and a few odd shots

Posted on 30 Jun, 2009 20 comments

I’m lucky enough to be able to walk to work (when I’m not running late and disorganised – but you know me, so that almost never happens!) and usually walk home too. If I’m picking up from school the way is not quite so green, but I still like to have a good neckstretch at other people’s front gardens etc… Anyway this is a footpath between the office & home. Worcs. County Council do a lovely job maintaining this path.

\

The pic is about 2 weeks old at least by now (wotever have i been doing with my time?) so the climbing roses are turning into hips already

\

nice shiny sweet chestnut leaves there

\

and quite a lot of elms

Now, this may look like a weedy mess to you, but I spy this autumn’s blackberries, my favourite –

\

and I even coo over these

\

Somewhere I had a good shot of a lime tree, but it’s escaped, never mind here are a few more odds n ends.

A recent June/Maypole event

\

And the battle lines being drawn for the grand water fight on one of those lovely heatwave days –

\

\

Was I glad though when all that junk disappeared back into the shed…

Here are some flax that we actually remembered to sow this year, so much more effective than leaving them in the seed packet I find.

\

and I think I may have found the lime tree while searching for something else. Fingers crossed…

\

Bingo.

Lovely blog and photos! I had a job once that enabled me to walk fro a while and I was also rubber-necking at people's gardens. It's so much fun to see what they do with certain areas and the changes that are made over the seasons. Enjoyed your walk.

A lovely walk Weeding, I would do the same too if my place of work was nearby and the lovely gardens to pass daily. Enjoyed it.

Lovely summer-time photos! I love wild roses. :-)

I only have one (small) gripe! Why are the maypole dancers doing it in June??? LOL. Whatever happened to tradition - 1st May!! (I have turned into Victoria Meldrew!)

I did Maypole Dancing as a child. it is great fun. I bet Health and Safety will ban it - it is very easy to hang yourself or somebody else! You have to concentrate to weave your ribbon.

A lovely blog and you're very lucky to have such a nice walk to work.
They've banned Conkers in school Marge so Maypoles are probably next. Words like World and gone mad spring to mind!!!

"Neckstretch" - I love it!!

Thx for comments.
It was technically a Junepole just bcos that's when the school fete was - mayb if they'd known then about the imminent swine flu it would not have happened, so I'm glad they didn't! The ribbons didn't unplait as planned, but it was still lovely I thought.
I don't know what the current wisdom is on conkers, but sports day was cancelled because of some moderate rain the previous day. I did think that was a bit daft. In Germany the schools used to have "Hitzefrei" (lit. translation: "heatfree") ie no school when heat got over a certain number of degrees. That was equally mad really. Why would children be any less hot and bothered at home than in a nice cool classroom?! Slummy Mummy strikes again.

Oh, and in answer to Ian - some of those are mine, but many are borrowed. Seems half the neighbourhood use our garden as a playground/pitch, but that's usually fine with me, except when things get broken. Just after these photos there was a bit of a palaver bcos they managed to break the tap on one water butt. Harrumph.

They'd know if any of the kids had swine flu. They'd come out in rashers and have to get some oinkment!!! Yes, I know.........terrible and in such bad taste but you've got to laugh else you'd cry! Our local school now has some suspected cases.
