Gardeners World (sort of)

Well fellow Goyers …I had planned to come back with lots of lovely photos of the show gardens and interesting plants but instead the only pics I have to show are the plants I bought !

Normally we have a slow stroll around whilst we take in all the gardens and then a leisurely lunch, but then we’ve never been on “plant sell off day” before .Every stall was taking orders for the display plants from the moment we arrived .Fearing there would be nothing left worth buying I was like a cat on a hot tin roof getting around the stalls, checking out reductions ect .By lunchtime I had hardly bought a thing! Every time I asked about a stunning plant it had either been snapped up off display or they’d run out .

I managed to take a pic of a few that caught my eye like this stunning Trandenscentia .

I searched in vain for a pink Salvia i’d fallen in love with outside

Or this gorgeous Verbascum

But I did manage to grab this Verbascum blattaria album ..just stunning

but not this one

But grabbed this beautiful and very unusual salvia that was listed as vatican white but certainly isn’t

Feeling more than a little put out we wandered outside where one of the show gardens was being broken up and paydirt !! I managed to grab a Peony Sarah Bernhart ,three huge Salvia Lubbecas, two very large Geranium Siraks, the Salvia shown above and a very large copper Stipa Arundinacea which is now known as Anemanthela Lessoniana I’m told and three of the Verbascum Blatteria Album ….all for £36!
My good spirits restored we popped back in to the RHS marquee only to find they were selling off the foxgloves for a £1 each ,so we had three Foxy ,three Pams Choice and three Exalibur Lavender for the princely sum of £9 !!

Hubby decided he’d better trundle off to the car (twice) with my purchases and whilst he was busy I nabbed a large Knautia Macedonia .. a Malvia Moschata “White Perfection” a Geranium “Rozanne” and a Gillenia trifoliate for £3 each …all reduced !

Finally we hit the plant alley indoors after a refreshing cup of tea and me feeling most happy .
Well …..what can I say ….5 plants for £5 ….I was like a woman possesed!!
We grabbed Salvia Nemorosa Pink “East Friesland” x3,…Aconitum Napellus ssp Vulagre Albidum x3 Lysimachia Atropurpureum Beaujolaise x6 (gorgeous plant) Phlox david x1
Physocarpus lady in red x1….yes for £1 and a good 3 litre plant at that!!!
Salvia New Dimension Rose x2 Anemone coronaria “the bride”x2 and a Miscanthus Souix and a tender but very pretty grass called Hordeum Jubatum.
So sorry fellow gardeners …no pictures of immaculate show gardens but one over the moon gardener who can’t wait to get planting !! :-)))

Susie, your plants look lovely and what Bargains!!! No wonder you are thrilled.... I was trying to get to Gardeners World this year, I have never been before so I dont know much about it but I looked online at the ticket price and compared it to Easy Jet flights to France and it was actually cheaper to fly to France!!! I would really like to go next year though, so do you reckon the best day to go is the last day to get the plants which are being sold off and if so do you have to go really early?

18 Jun, 2012

The ticket price was £14 Marion and yes next year we'll go on the last day !! I've learnt now ...don't buy anything till the last half an hour so no you really don't have to get there early lol
At the beginning of the day I nearly bought at full price a lot of the plants I managed to nab for a £1 a pot and sooo nearly paid £6 for ONE salvia pink !
There were a great many stalls selling off good and interesting plants and not your run of the mill stuff at the last minute so next year I'll enjoy the day a lot more and then just grab whats left and I'm sure I'll still get plenty of interesting plants :-)

What a lot of lovely bargains you got Susie! I'm going to Hampton Court FS on the last day! :) I'm getting one of the flat pack plastic trolleys to fill up!! :)

Susie, when I looked online at the ticket prices it was £24 each for entry so I did not know they were £14 elsewhere... its good to know for next year, thanks.
