Chelsea 2009 - a bit late!

I took my daughter to the Chelsea Flower Show on Tuesday afternoon as a treat, as it is her birthday at the end of May. Hubby’s Christmas present of RHS membership meant we could go on a members day. I would have taken a lot more pictures had I been on my own, and probably would not have completely forgotten the Courtyard Gardens (my favourite bit!). I’m so glad I decided to forgo the Pimm’s if that was the price, Peter!
I am also glad in a way that I did not have time to write this blog for a week – it means I won’t be duplicating any of the Chelsea 2009 photos already posted.

They are just things that caught my eye, and some of them won’t have appeared on the BBC’s excellent coverage. It was sometimes a bit difficult to get near the stands where they were recording, though, and they seemed to need an ARMY of technicians, etc. wherever they went!

Enjoy……

Flowers real………

A bit difficult to swallow?

This undersea garden created out of succulents was so cleverly done, complete with lighting mimicking underwater and sounds of the waves. It deserved the Gold Award it won.

……….and flowers not so real!

This last one is MY sort of garden – it is currently my screensaver until I get bored with it!

I love your photos Shirley, I need to get to the Chelsea Flower show one year, I have walked along the South Bank after it has finished and seen the amount of huge, mature palms and plants in skips!! That was in 2003 but they are supposed to be into recycling the gardens these days.

Or why not go to Hampton Court Flower Show in July? The grounds are much bigger (so less crowded) and there are lots of nursery stalls selling plants all the way through the show

Chelsea is fantastic, but having been once I do prefer Hampton court.
Fantastic pics.
This year I managed to watch all the programmes due to having a virgin box.

Thanks to all for your comments. I have now been to Chelsea twice, and Hampton Court once, so maybe this is the year to balance things up - looking for tickets now!

Thanks, Hywel. Yes, they do get a bit carried away with interviewing people, when what we ACTUALLY want to see are the gardens and flowers!
