I agree,Kath..a place worth visiting..We went years ago ,when our daughter was young..Did you sit in the Dentist's chair ? Gruesome place and Instruments ...We stayed in a Travel lodge for a couple of nights,so we could travel around at leisure..and because we couldn't afford Hotels :o)

No bloomer it was roped off could only look in.

The Dentist who was in period costume said they took teeth from the dead.

We got told today next phase is 1950 ,s theme and they are going to build a hotel and cinema and make some of thcottages for people who have dementia and their carers.

Shall add photos when we get home.

We went into the mine scary.

That's a good idea, for people with mental health issues,Kath..We didn't go in the mine, but our daughter did..I seem to remember that about taking teeth from the dead..not a nice thought ...

Gruesome times.....the cottages reminded my of my grandparents. ...they were born in the 1880's and the blacklead range...the tin bath , the mangle and the cooking utensils were very familiar. ....broken biscuits in the grocers....I had to buy those just for the memories. ......andchocolate chewing nuts and coconut mushrooms......still tasted the same
enjoyed the brass band too but we were blessed with warm sunshine
enjoy the next leg Kath. ....hope it warms up a bit for you x

Visited Beamish several times in our motor home trips Scotkat. Wonderful place and wonderful countryside. Best part of wild England to really imagine yourself back in times gone by. I could live with a big cast iron grate any time. Toasty warm. Heats up water and the smoothing iron, airs the washing. Makes toast, roasts chestnuts. I can still see my gran in forties and fifties, ironing away on the table in front of the iron range. A delicious rice pud in the oven side the fire. Bags me the skin off the top...yummy. I think she even liked black leading the grate and all that. We still have their children called an AGA or range cooker heater.
