Thank you Paul!

Thanks for all your comments!
Louise1, as far as I know (I grew up in the States but was not born here) the indian corn symbolizes plenty and is also a sign of welcome...has to do the the first Thanksgiving, I think, when the indians helped the pilgrims out and then celebrated the goodwill between the two groups...Clarice I wouldn't mind if the birds fed on them, but they don't...I do know they can be used to feed horses though as an older gentleman who lives below me asked me for last years indian corn that he wanted to take to the horses his family has somewhere...=)

Bernieh the impatiens are like the energizer bunny...they just keep going and going! lol THanks I hope your summer's a good one...

Hywel, I'll try and look it up...also your suggestion Seaburngirl...all I know is that the flowers look like they have lips or slippers?? But I don't want to say they're lady's slippers without knowing for sure...will try to get a close-up photo. =)

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Hywel, I bought six!! A lavender mum, a lavender petunia, a purple (but looks deep pink to me) double wave petunia, a red dianthus, a red gerbera daisy and a very tiny lavender rose....Mmmm...for some reason I keep choosing lavenders, reds and pinks this season! lol

Thanks Orgratis, I will try and do that...snatch them when the oweners aren't looking! lol

Thanks!

Thanks Bernieh!

LOL

Yes the weather's odd here too...should be cooler, but despite last week, it isn't...yesterday returned to hot and humid, very muggy...Tha rain has helped, though and it looks like the impatiensa are actually going to flower!

Mmmm...I will look for it, there must be some around Houston somewhere! Thanks!

I want at least one or two more...I like the dark red one and maybe a white one... =)

I love the ranges of purple/lavender pink! very pretty!

Feel better soon! Is the flying pig fever the same thing as swine flu? Never heard it called that...Your garden looks great! Wish I could have a bite of that apple...

Conker looks great, I hope he continues to recover, even when he feels a little weak...and Truffle is also adorable! a hug to you all...

just gorgeous!

Thanks Bernieh and Greenthumb...will try these again, I think...next year...

Absolutely! I was amazed this one lasted as long as it did...

Where do you think I could get shade cloth, Greenthumb? I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere.

Bernieh, they're not always in full sun...they do get shade, but perhaps the amount of sun they got was still too much...

They really do, Bernieh! They are my new favorite flower!

Yes, I just don't know how, Homebird. The problem, Bernieh is that there's not enough room in my apt for the plants....=(

That's a really good idea, Greenthumb...finally Fall is here! Was 90 F this morning but by noon it was raining cats and dogs and the temp had dropped to the 70s. Happened very quickly, too.

I tried, Homebird, I tried!

On photo - Burnt echinacea.

Hywel, we've had the hottest summer in 150 yrs! Usually June is not too bad, but this year it was blistering...and has continued to be very hot...so the plants have suffered a lot...I have watered them, I aqua-globed them but as you saw still lost quite a few...=(

Begonias usually do well for me, Greenthumb...they love the sun but also drink a lot of water...how's the weather up in Alaska? I'm guessing it must be cool/cold by now?

Not that I can tell, Homebird - but then I have terrible allergies. Yes, the pentas are lovely. I regret not buying the deep red one as well.

No, you know I'm still asking myself that...I think it was a combination of high heat/humidity during the day and an attack by ants...but how the roses weren't affected is still a mystery...I watered them, but they just kept wilting (the geraniums especially). Someone told me when the weather's too hot and you water plants, you actually may bake the roots, but I don't know if that's true...

horrible weather, Janette...this whole summer was the hottest on record in about 150 years!!

I know Hywel, but one branch is actually very green and has a few leaves on it already...I should have taken a close-up...

Greentumb, thanks for the advice, I think I'll try that.

Thanks!

edible, too...lol =)

Yes, I was depressed for awhile...not quite ready yet to re-plant....The pentas are wonderful for the Houston climate...
