these keep popping up everywhere in my garden , someone told me that the birds scatter the seeds , I thought they were weeds , We had a session digging them out where they were not wanted , at least I now have a name for them . thanks for that .

Haha Andrewr. You are still young, lol. You probably are so pre occupied or so busy that you find it hard to keep it all in line. I think modern times give us so much information we can't keep up with it and only keep what is most important to us in mind. If it is any consolation: you are not an isolated case: it happens to the majority of people! I always think the best form of communication is by computer as it gives you time to think!

I forget things and I'm only in my fifties. I recently gave a talk and started a sentence "so I set off down the A303 to...". When I started the sentence, I knew the name of the place but by the time I got to mentioning it, it had gone!" (It was Wincanton by the way)

Hi Poaannua,
I am curious, what does your name stand for. I keep having to look real attentively or else I misspel it. All those flowers you mention sound terrific, but I don't know rose felicite et perpetue. So maybe you have a digital camera as well and can show us these? Don't be embarassed about forgetting water from the sprinklers. You know, I left one on all night not so long ago. It was in the back of the garden and I didn't hear it. In the morning I suddenly remembered and rushed back to a flooded garden. And I am only 65! I have to laugh about your too succulent succulents. Yes, they are very drought resistant and don't need much watering. Well, going in the garden now, we are having a drink on the veranda whilst the sun is still shining.

I know the feeling! Just say 'I'm having a senior moment' when you DO forget something! Is the hardy Fuchsia 'Hawkshead' ? Mine is in a big post and is in full bloom so I won't be cutting it back yet!

Hi Poaannua - I'm looking forward to reading your blogs on nature and bonsai. Will you be posting pictures of your trees? I must warn you, this site can be pretty compulsive!
Sarah.

Welcome from me too. Looking forward to you sharing the wisdom that you have collected over the years. By the way for part of my life I lived in Hampshire, in Peetersfielldd and Liss. My husband was born in Emsworth and our name is a Hampshire name.

Hello Poaannua.Welcome to GOY. I had a bit of trouble there spelling your name, a real tongue twister I might add. You must have had an interesting life so far with all your bonsai trees and plants. Yes, this is a wonderful site and we can comment or read comments from others as much as we like. I've been here a month now and I still have not seen everything and everyone there is. It would be great if you can answer some of those questions the gardeners have. I hope we soon see some more of your pictures too.
It is amazing that at your age you are only semi retired. Have fun here!

Welcome! I love this site because people do write back, and it's nice to hear er - read! what people think about all sorts of things relating to gardening - I also love geraniums, so can understand your wife's fondness for them. =) I'm sure we'll learn a lot from you and the experience you have!

Hello and Welcome to GOY.
I think a lot of people will be glad to have someone knowledgable about Bonsai. Everyone on this site seems to have their own interests and areas of expertise. It actually works out very well!!

Hi Poaannua,
So you will know all about Bonsai!
Someone gave me one last year because they couldn't be bothered to look after it. I kept it in my greenhouse and it grew glossy and beautiful. Then this spring it suddenly turned yellow and died. I don't know what I did wrong.
I like Vancouver centennial and the rest of your photo.

that is a lovely Bonsai ,
I have a group of three horse chestnut trees growing as Bonsai ,my children picked the conkers up about 35yrs ago , they are still looking o.k the one thing I have noticed is that the leaves start to to brown early , as though it is already autumn , is this normal ? the trees are 16/18 inches tall .
I also have an indoor one which hasn,t got a name on it ,it was given to me as a present , I almost lost it recently , the leaves were falling off one by one , I was looking at it really closely and noticed little red spider mites on it , got rid of them and it now has a whole load of fresh leaves .
