"Simon and Clare - A unique and Memorable Wedding"

Simon our eldest son and Clare his partner of five years decided that it was time to tie the knot!

Some of you may recall that they are both keen long distance walkers and mountain climbers, having conquered all of Wainwrights Lake District mountains they wanted to do something special and out of the ordinary for their wedding [and it certainly was]’

The plan was to complete the 192 mile “Coast to Coast Walk” for their second time , but this time there would be something different, they planned to get married on route at a destination known only to them!

The total walk was to be undertaken over a twelve day period.
Family and friends were invited to join them at the end of their walk at Robin Hoods Bay to celebrate with them.

[Anyone interested there is a blog covering the entire walk and wedding just log on to ] http://simonandclare.wordpress.com/

On Monday the 30th of June, Harry and I waved a very excited Simon and Clare off at the railway station where the train would take them to St Bees the starting point of their walk and great adventure.

The next time we were to see Simon and Clare would be at Robin Hoods Bay on the 12th of July, they then would be Mr & Mrs.

News came through on the 8th of July that they had got married at Richmond Registrar Office ;0)

The witness’s were Jo and Richard their very special friends with their twins who met them on route as planned with Cup Cakes and a pretty Bouquet for Clare.

Here is the very happy couple showing their wedding certificate as proof that they are now legally married. The next morning they would rise early to continue four more days walking before reaching their destination.

You can just imagine how excited we both were when we set off for Robin Hoods Bay on the 12th of July, we were to stay with other family members and friends staying the weekend at the Victoria Hotel celebrating with the newly weds.
Simon and Clare were due to arrive around 4 oclock the hotel was buzzing with the excitement and a group of their friends along with Eleanor and George [Clares Children] donned in fancy dress and carrying a banner set off first to meet them and accompany them to the hotel..

After hugs and greetings we all set off down to the sea where they had to complete the walks tradition of throwing a pebble each of them had carried from St Bees to throw in the sea at Robin Hoods Bay.
We took over the lovely little bay area and all traffic stopped and people stared and waved at the procession.

Then it was shoes off for Simon and Clare!

There was much laughter as we all followed to watch them fullfilling the tradition.

We All Cheered as Simon and Clare stepped into the cold sea and hugged before carrying out the traditional deed!

Then Hip Hip and Hooray as the pebbles were flung high into the air

Followed by Clare’s Wedding Bouquet!!

Then everyone joined in and lots of cameras came out as family and friends clicked away!

Our Family from the left,,Harry, Grand Daughter Laura with Great Grand daughter Izzy,Grand Daughter in Law Kay with Grandson Stephen and Great Grandson Sam,me and our youngest son Robin!

Me, Robin, and Harry

Arrival back at the hotel with a very happy Simon, and Clare, and a very smiley Robin, Let the Celebrations begin!!

After arriving back at the hotel we all got changed ready to enjoy a Celebratory meal of Whitby Fish and Chips, followed by the equally famous Whitby Ice Cream. As you may have guessed there was no fancy dressing up just very casual wear, so those of you are waiting to see the special dress I brought will be disappointed it was Tops and Trousers lol

We all gathered in the lovely grounds waiting for the Bride and Groom making appearance like Royalty on the Balcony, we didnt have to wait long before they put in a regal performance.

The evenings entertainment was courtersy of Simon and Clares friends, an excellent guitarist and singer, other guests gave impromtu turns too including Clares 11 year old son George who also sang and played his guitar and Clare also sang as she too has a lovely singing voice.

Bring on the Fish and Chips

My Baby Brother Bill and daughter Melissa the evening was a lovely but a little chilly , so I had to succumb to wearing my Cardi [shame it was black not very wedding like lol]

Bride and Groom relaxing with daughter Laura and children Izzy, Samuel and Ruby enjoying their ice creams.

Harry’s Nephews and Nieces and Robin.

Ice Cream Time

Eleanor and George, Clares children and Simon’s new Step Son and Daughter

Time to Cut the Cake

The End of A Perfct Day

Congratulations Simon and Clare From all Your Family And Friends.
