*Well folks have been under the weather these last few days, but pleased to say I woke up this morning feeling so much better, so what shall do? Its still too slippery and cold to venture further than the back garden, so its got to be something indoors, Harry is busy painting the lounge so better to keep out of his way. Ive made all my Christmas Cards and and given my craft box a tidy so that leaves me stood looking round the kitchen, I know how about some baking!
There are lots of veggies which will go to waste if I dont get them used up so first on the Menu a Pan of Homemade Broth and what about some crusty bread to go with it Mmmm. The broth was quickly underway and simmering on the cooker.
Now for the bread, I must admit not made any for a very long time, but luckily with the forecast of the snow I had bought in some Strong Flour and some dried Yeast just in case we ran out of bread like last year!

I followed the instructions to the letter, but oh dear when I emptied the mixture onto the floured board I was upto my elbows in a sticky guey mess [havent got a bread maker] so had to knead by hand, it took 20 minutes before the mixture resembled a workable dough but at last after a further hour and half left to rise I was able to put the loaves in the oven, but have to say I wasn’t holding out much hope [never mind the birds will dine well tonight] after a further half and hour in the oven I went to retrieve them!

Hey look at these! 2 Crusty Loaves

2 Cottage Loaves and a Plait [They look Ok but] “The proof of the pudding is in the eating” so they tell me!.

Now I have sorted lunch, what can we have for Dinner?
As Harry was doing such a good job of the painting, I thought I would make him one of his favorites a Cheese and Onion Pie, oh not forgetting my feathered friends a patty cake for them!

And here it Is! One, " Cheese and Onion Pie"

Well now there’s just a sweet to think of, so a rummage through the cupboards and the freezer and guess what I found? Frozen Plums! got it, to the rescue " Shirleys Plum Cake"!

“Shirley’s Plum Cake” reappears for the fourth time, It will go down nicely with some ice cream Mmmmm

Just one more thing to do, must go and feed my little friend who has sat patiently watching me throughout my baking session;0))

Hope you have enjoyed cooking along with me!*

Nice to hear you are feeling better PP. I just love cheese & onion pie, unfortunately I've had to give the cheese a miss lately due to a high cholesterol reading, groan. So come on ladies (and gents), how about some recipes for fellow sufferers. I can try them out and I promise to post some pictures on. Might even do a blog, depends on the response. :o)))

can you have the low fat cheeses LL?

7 Dec, 2010

Yes, Sticki, but I prefer a good strong cheese, not parmesan. UGH.

7 Dec, 2010

some of the cheddars now are low fat,
i make a nice butternut squash and stilton pie ~ but not sure you can have the stilton?

7 Dec, 2010

Thanks All I tried the bread today it was passable but not worth all that kneading would probably have been better with fresh yeast and a bread machine to mix it!
Stick I am going to put my recipe on now [it was delicious]
Littlelegs sorry about the high cholesterol but I have it too, but just for treat I have mature cheddar! Dont think it would be quite the same with low fat. But I do make a quiche sometimes with Cottage Cheese and low fat cream cheese which is very tasty;0)
Amy you would be very welcome to pop round any time just as long as you dont Blacklist me!;0)

7 Dec, 2010

7 Dec, 2010

Thats great Stick we have quite a collection of yummy recipies on Goy , think we maybe all needing a diet for the Spring!

7 Dec, 2010

ive given up the thought of a diet till after christmas now! i really want to learn to make chocolates ~ anyone know of a good course ~ thats affordable?

7 Dec, 2010

Don't know about any chocolate courses, Sticki, but this is a very quick & easy choc truffle recipe that we have made each Christmas for years and years!

6ozs plain chocolate, melted
6ozs softened unsalted butter
1lb icing sugar
1 tablespoon rum

Beat plain chocolate into butter
Add icing sugar until all blended together
Add rum
Shape into small balls, walnut size, and roll in chocolate vermicelli.

Leave in fridge to harden for at least 1 hour.

Baileys, Tia Maria, etc can be used instead of rum. If unable to obtain vermicelli, use cocoa powder on its own for a slightly bitter taste or cocoa mixed with icing sugar for a sweeter taste.

They can be made beforehand and frozen too :)

8 Dec, 2010

oh fabulous, thank you ~ think i may make some for presents ~ if i can keep them that long! ive copied this into my recipe file already!
i will of course have to test them before i give them to anyone!

Thanks Carol and Terra, everything is gone now.just wish my cough and cold has, Im still feeling not 100per cent so just rying to keep up with Goy when I feel able ;0)

10 Dec, 2010

I hope you are feeling a bit better today, PP. Coughs can seem to hang around for weeks after the rest of the symptoms have passed. That's what happens to me.

11 Dec, 2010

Thanks for your concern Balcony, a little better today!

12 Dec, 2010

Now it's my wife's turn to come down with a cough & soreness in her chest!

12 Dec, 2010

Sorry to hear that Balcony hope she is able to shake it off before Chriistmas, you do really need to be on top form to deal with all the shopping , cooking and visitors. I went out today for the fist time in well over a week not 100 per cent yet but getting there. I was concerned that we might get snowed in again as there is snow forecast for later in the week ;0(

13 Dec, 2010

Thanks, PP. She was at home all last week as she was on holiday. We couldn't go anywhere on account of the ice & snow we had here as well. We actually only had a couple of cm of snow but the ice was everywhere! I, myself, hardly went out of the house either!

Unfortunately, like you say, the snow & ice are forecast to return from Thursday this week onwards. :-((

I hope you have made a good recovery from your cold now.
