Well, finally got my new toy up and running.
For some time, I have fancied a nest box camera and I got one earlier this week. I bought it online from http://handykam.com.
I ordered it last Friday. Ten minutes later, I recieved an e-mail telling me it had been shipped! I couldn’t believe it.
It arrived on Monday and upon checking it all out, I found EVERYTHING I needed to install, except a Phillips screwdriver.
Even a masonary drill was included. I also bought a USB Video capture device, so that I can have the camera onto my PC.
Hopefully, I can get video clips of the birds onto my website, but that will be anotherlearning curve.
To have a permanent camera onto the web, will require a lot of bandwith my web host wouldn’t like it.
All we need now is some residents and, according to people I have spoken to, could be a bit of a hit and miss affair at this time of year.
We will see, but I have been able to set it all up, so that I can minimise the cam and have a motion alarm to tell me when one of the birds enters the box.
Very clever
!
Thought I’d include these shots of a flowering cherry I got in the Woolies sale last year for 99p! It’s really opened out
Jacque. Saw my friend on the market and she will have more lobelia on Saturday – sold out today

Wowee! High tech or what?! I wonder if the birds who take up residence in these boxes ever get a bit paranoid about being watched? Can just imagine daddy bird saying 'i've got this funny feeling i'm being watched....' and mother bird saying 'oh for goodness sake, nobody can see us in here............' and then the both of them looking around at all the wires and lenses and things..... te he.......

ive always fancied a box with a camera. We sawq them last year at a show but they were a little expensive and i couldnt convince my wife it was a good buy. Good luck with yours though.
My boys and myself put up a bird box last year after watching Spring Watch on TV. Nobody moved in.
But! this year we have had a robin move in.
His neighbour is a pigeon in the hedge about 6ft away.

I'm very envious of your camera. Always wanted one of those. I always wondered what was going on inside our boxes. closest i ever dared get was to unscrew a lid and see a mother blue tit sittting on the eggs. The look on her poor wee face was enough to deter me ever doing same again. Your bargain cherry is marvellous, too!

Sunday 4th May - No visitors yet.
I got the cam kit online from http://www.handykam.com

Ah! Had a visitor in there this afternoon .... a blooming fly!
David!!!!! You MUSN'T open the box if you have residents! The mummy and daddy bird may fly away .... at least that's what the RSPB and BTO told me.
Still time for mine. BBC Springwatch hasn't started yet, and Bill and Katie always seem to get some broods, so there's hope for Old Muddy Boots yet!

I know, Muddy boots (but that was c.7 yrs ago). The birds, luckily, did not desert. I managed to content myself with setting up the VCR on a tripod and just let it record a whole tape, then sit and watch it for hours to see the birds come and go. I raised 5 generations of Tits in one home-made box - and they sure devoured loads of greenfly and other garden pests. Now, I remember making and locating that box in February, and it was being investigated almost immediately. I have a box in my current garden - also set up in Feb. - and it is definitely occupied. Looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Well, David, that's all very encouraging. The camera is the first thing that get's switched on in the morning. I am forever hopeful
