Hi Folks
Ol’ Muddy Boots is back! Sniffling like mad and eyes running and itching like they’ve never done before. Well, I’ve never had hay fever before. Still, things are looking up, though my eye lids are swollen but these things, apparently, happen.
Just to bring you all up to date, my old patio greenhouse got damaged in a strong wind, so I disposed that through
Fenland Recycle: ttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/fenlandfreecycle/messages. A really great place to recycle stuff, or get things you want. You’d be surprised what goes on there and it’s all free!! I have even seen peanuts and chocolates on there!
Anyway ….... I got myself another patio greenhouse, but was too tall to go where the old one was, so I placed it where I had sweetcorn last year.
That turned out to be unsuitable, so It’s ended up back on the patio . Much more stable.
I took advantage of the sun over the weekend. I had a load of plug plants delivered from Thompson & Morgan and another load from Jersey Plants Direct, so it was a Papworth Weekend for me – transplanting.
First, I had to clear the decks ready for all that pricking out. First was the Scardy Cat plants. I was a bit narked about them
as everyone of them had thier leaves broken off during transit. I’ve got in touch with T&M, but they haven’t got back. Now there’s a surprise!. Anyway, I planted the roots as they looked fairly healthy, so maybe they’ll take.
Next to get pricked out were the trailing Spellbound Bizzy Lizzies from T&M. Only a few of them, but they should be OK for hanging baskets.
Last, but not least, in fact, the most. Over 160 Double Bizzy Lizzies. They aren’t half fiddly, especially when the eyelids are swollen.
Still, they are all done now.
I have also ordered some trailing pansies. T&M say they are the world’s first, but I am sure I have seen them before. I have ordered the mixed varieties.
Don’t fancy them all being the same colour.
I have also treated myself to an early birthday present and it has arrived, but more about that later. It’s for the garden, and all I’ll say at the moment, stand aside Bill Oddie!
My sister and B-in-L from Harlow called in on Friday and brought me a small seed feeder for the dirds. Trouble is, I can’t keep it filled quick enough.

Hi Mary
Go0t that, but at the moment my eyelids are so swollen, burning and itching. Not good for a gardener, but I am NOT going to give up the only pleasure I have these days

In this weeks AG magazine it said this year was going to be bad for hayfever sufferers because of the mild winter, so dose yourself up everybody, can't have you staying indoors when there is all that gardening to be done (as if)!!

You poor thing! how difficult to pot up all those tiny plants with swollen eyes. Well done for your stamina. (or was it sheer obstinacy?) I have not bought anything from T&M this year, I have not been over-thrilled with them lately. I have had most plug plants from Dobies and some from Mr Fothergill. I have been very pleased with the Dobies ones - not a single problem! Good plants, good packaging. Shall stick with them.

Hi Ken - hayfever is miserable - I can heartily sympathise! Eye drops from the chemist help to cool the eyes. I also take anti histamine Desloratadine, but I think I'm becoming allergic to it. Allergic to an anti-histamine - no, the irony is not lost on me...... :-S

Hi Sid
Gone really black here, so someone is in for a soaking!
Yes, I am on anti-histermine and the Optrex eased things for an hour, but they have started to play up again

Oh dear, having hay-fever must be a real bane when you are keen on gardening. I do so hope you all find suitable relief especially if this is going to be a bad year for sufferers.
I have only once bought plug plants sent by mail, that was from QVC and I was impressed with both the packaging and the quality of the plants. However, as with clothing I prefer to see the actual items I am about to buy ...... never mind the quality feel the width :-)
Two years ago I made the mistake of trying to buy a lawn mower on line, it has never arrived and I am still trying to get my money back ..... had to go out and get a cheap one before the lawn turned into a meadow. ::-(

Xela, we should all tell each other which mail-order firms are good and which are iffy. Then we'll know who to buy from! I do understand your wish to see the plants, but the Garden Centres I frequent don't stock the range I can buy from the big firms - that's why I do it.

As an aside, I am in battle with a company for a couple of pairs of jeans I ordered online. I ordered them, because I have never found any in the shops that matched my expanding waistline and short legs!
I ordered them at the beginning of March, but they never turned up. They sent me the bill, but still have not turned up. At least the company hasn't taken the money. They have, however, sent me a form asking my permission to investigate. That seems strange.
