Hi all
Sorry I’ve not been about much, but I have been a bit crook again lately ….. well, for the last week at least.
I had to get the vet in and amongst other things, he’s diagnosed me with hay fever. Not very good for a gardener, so now I am looking for inspiration to grow allergy plants.
I am wondering if all this started with some Chinese Salad I grew over winter. It bolted and went to see. The flowers looked very much like Oil Seed rape. I wouldn’t think there is much else about that cpould have affected me, but Oil Seed is out at the moment. I have never been affected before.
I’ve got me a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter and an air purifier with the same type of filter, but that all worked for a couple of days. I also use a Sudafed Vapourising Plug overnight.
I’d appreciate any suggestions. Somehow I don’t think I’ll be entering into the Housing Society Garden competition this year.

Hi Ajay
Never suffered before, but I would have thought that if I keep to growing veg and don't let it bolt, I shouldn't have such a problem, BUT!!!!!!! This is the centreOf growing Oil seed rape, though not as bad as it used to be with fruit. Many of the orchards have been ripped up.
I did read somewhere that insect pollunated plants do not affect sufferers as much, as the pollen is too heavy to be airborne.
I shall have a look at that site - thanks

Woke up this morning with a sore throat that felt like someone had rammed a hot poker down me and not the flowering type.
Started to use my cut and come again lettuce that is in pots on the kitchen window sill. Trouble is, I've used them up too quickly, so I'll have to repot some more and probably get some more from the Market.
I also had a delivery from Thomson & Morgan - Bizzy Lizzy - Spellbound. I am thinking of getting some more trailers so that I can mix and natch different colours from different plants.

I suffer terribly from allergies, and when I moved to Houston I got much worse...allergy free gardens are a great idea but also you might want to help your own immune system deal with the excess histamine - I take vitamin C (1,000mg a day) and a natural allergy product called AllerFree, and when necessary Claritin. For the past two weeks I've not needed the Claritin! If I can get better, there's hope for everyone, at one point my allergies were so bad I was given asthma medication!! =) Good luck!

I feel for you Ken. Funnily enough I only started suffering from Hay fever 4 years ago when I moved from Leamington Spa to London. I would have thought it would have been the other way around. The air purifier didn't really do anything for me :( Loratadine tables are the only thing that works for me.
Some interesting stuff over at http://www.allergyfree-gardening.com/
