Phew! Lovely to have guests, especially when they are your son and daughter in law. They are here for a week and we’re so busy showing them the nice spots around where we live. I am tired and will have to go to bed, but thought I just let you know I have taken some pictures and I will post some more tomorrow.
On Thursday we went to Babinda, where the Boulders are and we had a pic nic there. It started to rain in the rainforest, but we had our pic nic under that rotunda where they have a wooden table and benches. It was not cold, about 24C and it was lovely to sit there amongst the native trees. A brush turkey came to visit us and kept walking around to see if anyone else had left bits for him to eat.
Friday the guests took our car and went into town to take a walk on the Esplanade and to do what all tourists do: have a coffee on a terrace and watch the world go by.
Today we took off after walking the dogs. Unfortunately they are not allowed to go into any National Park and had to stay home in the garden. We went up the 25 km bendy road, and when I say bendy I mean hairpin bendy as well, to Yungaburra, where we had coffee, hubby and son this huge ice coffee with lots of cream on top, haha, whilst we sat in the lovely garden. They have table and chairs and real little napkins and real little plants and flowers on each table, shady umbrella’s over the tables, just nice. It was quite cool actually, about 19C when we started there, as we were now 800m above sea level. But soon the sun came out in full glory and it was lovely. We strolled along the historic village, which is kept neat and tidy and cared for buildings, nicely painted. There was a winery, but not for grapes, but other fruits. Hubby of course got lost in there and bought a bottle of port and wine. After sightseeing the village we continued on to see the curtain fig tree. Then we had lunch at the restaurant at Lake Barrine and sat there outside on the wooden veranda overlooking the lake and gardens. In the distance we saw the tour boat crossing the lake. A little yellow breasted honey eater flew on and off to its nest, which was built on and against some dangling chains, hanging of the roof of the veranda. It was too fast and I didn’t want to get too close, so no pic of that. The lunch was delicious, but as usual too much. So I took the left over chicken pieces in a napkin home for the doggies, lol!
After lunch we walked the path to see the giant Kauri pines. This path is 5 kms but today we had no time to walk around the lake.
Instead we wandered around in the gardens there, which was sheer delight. Pictures will be posted tomorrow or soon after.
On the way home we had one more stop to make: the curtain fig tree. It was immense and near the tops covered with bird nest ferns and basket ferns. Birds must have dropped seeds in crevaces and nooks of its huge branches and over the years this tree looks like a hanging gardens in its top. It was getting late and the sun very low, so time to go home.
The doggies were over the moon when we got back and were happy with their chicken bits.
