House for sale
House for sale

I’ve been very busy lately in the garden. Trying to get it to look its very best. Some roses had to go, as the shrubs were clutching each other, and somehow didn’t get the right sunlight. Some had a deficiency, leaves gone all silvery pale. So now there is room to walk amongst them and I pruned the remaining ones back. Lots of dead heliconia’s had to be taken out, as new ones are coming up again. Just about need new secateurs, so much pruning and trimming we did. But it’s looking good now.
We’ve decided to move on again and will be going West this time. Our children all live in the West and so do our friends. Here we are rather lonely and we are getting a bit worn out of the enormous work in this huge garden. Because of the tropics, things grow twice as fast than in other regions. Once a week we need to mow the lawns, cut edges, rake. So our house is up for sale.
The only thing is from now on we have to make sure things look good all the time. We’ve already had some people looking through and next week will be an open day.
Once it’s sold we can make plans. It should be a wonderful experience to drive back to the West round the other way. I will be taking lots of pictures of different landscapes, flora and fauna. Of course I will share them here on GOY. The trip will be about 6500 kms and we think we will do it in 12 days, taking it easy. Of course we take our dogs with us in the car again. Pivot will be one of the most travelled dog I know, lol.
Well, this is an explanation of why I am not here so much, as we are busy. Cleaning windows is a major project, as many insects just fly onto them. Little lizards are messy too, even though they eat them at night.
I also have been helping my other daughter find a nice little place for herself. We did it together on internet and she looked at them in real. So that is outof the way and I can’t wait to see what she makes of the outdoors. Probably potplants in her courtyard, should be nice.

If it means another lovely serial of your journey, Marguerite I for one can't wait for you to move. So enjoyed your travels in previous blogs.

No wonder you've been missing from GOY, M.
What exciting news! I hope you sell quickly so you can get on with your plans.

Heh, you nice people, so many reactions. Thank you all for reading the blog and your interest. Wagger puts a smile on my face, of course I will have some tales to post, all in good time. We are running ahead of the events.
It is not the househunting which is difficult, it is the selling!
We don't mind not to have a home when we get there, we just look around and if not, rent a place whilst having a new home build. Even more exciting! But I look on internet and keep an eye on what's available. I definitely need a garden and we don't want a smaller block than 2000m2 which is half the size of we have now. Chrispook is right, it is better to have a managable size, but I also don't want to be on top of the neighbours. Having come from 200 acres, it is hard to live in suburbia. This house is also huge, more like a palace really and I have no servants that go with the palace, so yes, a lot of work to do always.
Treesandthings, no we are not allowed to take plants with us. There is quarantine interstate, especially going into Wester Australia as it is almost disease free compared to the Eastern States. Besides, it takes 3 weeks by truck and train before the container will be there, so any plants would die on the way, haha. Also, it is a different climate. The best thing to do is if there is no established garden just to plant native shrubs and trees. It is so much drier there and the worst thing is to try and create a tropical garden in an arid place, especially since there is a water restriction in summer. It will indeed be a challenge and very interesting to create a new garden or tidy up an old one. I have learned a lot in the last few years and can put some knowledge to practice. Phewww, this is almost another blog, LOL.

Best luck on the selling then. Someone will be just taken in by the garden I'm sure! The travelling sounds wonderful, so much space to experience without leaving the country! I'll be watching close to keep up as things progress. Sounds like a welcome change. :-)

Best of luck with the house sale, Marguerite. Your garden should sell it in a flash!

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words. I will let you know as soon as we have a buyer, but don't hold your breath....it's the same here as everywhere else in the world.
Still, one could be lucky,
And when we go, I will of course tell you and be in touch till the last day, when the PC will be packed. But I will take my laptop, so I can write stories and post pictures.
For now, patience is the essence of life...

Thinking of you in this time of upheaval. I've been wondering where you were - thought perhaps you were still on that beach on the Coral Sea...
Good luck with the sale of the house - once that's done you can start looking forward to your trip. And we're all looking forward to your trip too!

Marguerite:
I wish you the best of luck with you big move! I know it can be quite stressful moving, selling and looking for a new house.
I'm really going to miss your beautiful photos of your beautiful tropical garden and the town where you live. It was quite an educating and pleasurable experience commenting on your exotic plant photos. I actually felt like I've been to Northern Queensland in person...just by viewing your photos. I'm sure when you get established in your new home, you will be posting interesting new plants that grow in Western Australia.
I know from experience how much work it is to maintain a large garden..as my last house was small, however, it was on 3/4 of an acre...and my garden was...and is now, much smaller than your current property.
Take care and have a fun, safe trip!

All the best M, Let us know how the trip goes, your last one was exciting second hand as it were. I'm sure this one will be the same. You will have a new garden to see to, I'm sure you will enjoy that. : )

Oh, you're such nice people, all of you here. I am still here and still visit the beach and Coral Sea every Monday morning. The dogs are priority one and it's for them we shall persevere until the end, just before we go.
We do have some people interested, but they are waiting for another contract and you know how things go. It really takes ages to eventuate. Meanwhile we keep having open days and taking great care of the garden. There is a lot to do this time of the year and we've had some people helping. A guy came to clean the driveway and concrete paths, as they had gone all moldy from the wet season, in which we saw very little sun. Even now the weather is miserable with bits of rain now and then, and lots of overcast days. It is supposed to be fine and the dry season, but it doesn't look like it yet. At least daytimes are still a 28C, which is warm enough.
We've also been planning what to do and it looks at this stage we might be buying a caravan to travel across, which is so much easier with the dogs and once we are at the other end we will still be looking for a house, so at least we have our little home on wheels, lol. I might have to change my name to gipsy by then, haha.
Another reason I've not been here is since I have not taken any pictures, you know every single corner of my garden and every plant I have photographed, otherwise I will only repeat myself.
So guess for pics you will have to wait till something different happens here ( like crocs in the garden or so ), or until we take off. The first things to get into the car are my camera and laptop, so you will know what kind of things I will see on the way.
Thank you all for your good wishes, but I will come again more often.

The camera and the laptop need to be at the top of the list, but the LAST things you put in the car, so you can get to them easily, Marguerite! What an exciting trek that will be - hope hubby is a good mechanic in case anything needs fixing. Just been watching some clips of the TV program called Bush Mechanics - some of those roads are pretty scary. Our son and daughter-in-law spent 3 research seasons at Shark Bay (Monkey Mia) - she was studying the stingrays, and they said the worst thing on the roads apart from the dead snakes were those long truck trains...
17 May, 2009
Hi M - glad to hear that you have some interest in your house. Do please keep us posted about how it goes. I for one have missed you!
17 May, 2009
Hope things move along positively until you positively move along - west?
17 May, 2009
Yes Wagger, going to the wild West, lol. Our children and friends live there, so off we go. But it will be a while yet. These things don't move fast, unfortunately.
Thank you Spritzhenry for your kind words. I will have plenty of time, so I will be here regularly now. I am planning the road trip now as well, finding pet friendly caravan parks for on the way. It is very hard, I have to learn geography first, haha, to know where to go. This is such a huge place and placenames in the other states don't mean too much to me yet. But fun all the same.

good luck with selling your house and moving. it really is exciting time but you also have mixed feelings, are you looking at garden books to see what you might plant at the new place yet, I think that would be one of my first things to do in free time when and if there is free time
13 Jul, 2009
Pondlady I am not looking at garden books or mags, as I first need to see what garden there is. As it is in the dryest part of Australia I am going for native shrubs and trees, which will require very little water and attract birdlife. But it all depends what kind of garden there already is. For the moment I am very busy keeping this one looking nice and tidy, as we have open days every weekend. The sale fell through last month, so we are starting afresh with an auction in 4 weeks, if anyone will register. Times are not that good here at the moment and we are more or less remote.
Meanwhile we are enjoying the lovely dry and sunny weather.
14 Jul, 2009
Oh - M - I am sorry you lost your sale! Keeping your house looking good all the time is so tiring. Fingers crossed for the auction. Let us know how it goes, won't you?
14 Jul, 2009
Thank you for your kind words Spritzhenry. Yes we have hope for the auction. Meanwhile I consider myself lucky, as the weather up North here is so much better than down South where we will be heading. They are really having winter and the roads here and there are not too good at the moment either with snow on the mountains, freezing nights. So, perhaps for the better it will take a little longer. It wouldn't be until mid September at the earliest if all goes well. So yes, spring is a much better time to be travelling those 7000 kms! Thank you for your interest and I will certainly carry on and let everyone know how things are going.
14 Jul, 2009
Someone will come along and fall in love with your house, just you wait and see. We had a frustrating wait for a while too, in Montreal, and then suddenly the house went, and we had to move quickly. Hope the same will happen for you. I keep checking to see your updates...
14 Jul, 2009
OK Elke, thanks. Some people are interested, let's hope they come up with the right amount.

Good luck with your house-hunting Marguerite.
It's a big decision, but you'll enjoy travelling with your dogs, and living closer to your children and friends.
