The wet.
The wet.

When people ask: “Where is your sun?”
Then I tell them it’s no fun
here in the wet: it’s dull and grey.
It rains all night, it rains all day.
The plants love it and shine
in all that water, for them it’s fine.
The frogs, they jump around
in the plants and on the ground.
They love it and croak
and have a good soak.
It’s still warm tonight;
the gecko’s in the light
are catching bugs on the wall
and I can see it all.
From the trees drops the rain
pitter patter, nice refrain.
The wind is softly blowing
but soon that will be growing
into a storm they forcast
and for hours it will last.
With heavy falls I can tell
I know this weather oh so well.
I was woken by a light flash
and I got up in a dash.
But nothing seemed wrong,
when I heard loud and strong…
the thunder which rumbled on
and on echoeing till it was gone.
The dogs shot out the room
like a witch on a broom.
They hid somewhere in the house
and were quiet as a mouse
shivering and quivering.
But no more cracks were heard
just the screeching of a bird.
The rain just pelted down
All I did was frown.
It’s been wet now for a while,
It really is no style.
I have to wipe the mold away
and keep the humidity at bay.
The cushions on the chairs are wet
and so are the sheets on the bed.
The floor is wet, as if just mopped
and it just hasn’t stopped.
The fridge outside is rusting
it really is disgusting;
the water is dripping off the door
and slowly running on the floor.
The lawns are muddy
I tell you buddy
It’s not funny here
and the dogs…oh dear.
they shake and splatter
and it doesn’t get better.
The trail of mud behind
is not very kind.
I hope it soon will pass
and we can mow the grass.
Marguerite.

thats a lovely poem about rain... although you're fed up about it :)

Great blog!
you have my deepest sympathy. Are the dogs really that scared, the thunder must be horrible! Just the thought of that much wet is troubling.
I remember wading through the streets to work in Houston after a hurricane. My dad dropped me off 3 blocks away and said this is as close as I can get without drowning the car you'll have to "hoof it" from here. 3 blocks in knee high water. Yuck!

We really feel for you, M - especially after two wet summers over here. I certainly wouldn't enjoy the thunderstorms either - nor would Henry who runs everywhere woofing his head off if we get any thunder!

Hi, great poem. Sorry about all your wet!

Smashing poem. Poor dogs! Our Paddy doesn't like the thunder either. Don't worry about the rain, it could be worse. It started snowing here a couple of hours ago and is settling on the ground. The forecast is for more overnight and tomorrow so we could have quite a covering.

Great poem Marguerite..our dogs [sadly gone now] reacted in exactly the same way to storms....reduced to panting quivering wrecks.Same reaction to fireworks !

You'd think they are used to it after living in Darwin for a while. It has 600 000 lightning strikes a year, which means they only fall in summer. There was only one off yesterday and they'd forgotten about it as soon as we went for a walk after breakfast. The cyclone is now an ex cyclone and it crossed the coast at Mission Beach. I was there in March last year. Hope they didn't have too much damage. All shops were empty in Cairns, lol, everyone had been stocking up, but we had nothing, no wind, no more rain than usual. Mission Beach is only an hour and a bit down South.
Thank you all for reading my poem. This rain may seem bad to all of you, but it is quite normal for the tropics. I live in the rainforest, you can't expect anything else, lol. Amy, one day the sun will shine again and we will once again roam the beaches.

Sorry to hear about all your rain. The news bulletins are showing a mega heat wave for Oz at the moment and bush fires everywhere. I'm sure all that rain you're having would help put the fires out, blow the rain hard in their direction! We're having snow today, and tomorrow.....who know what the weather will do on Wednesday...we don't often see snow in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Hello Greenfingers. Australia is a HUGE country and we have several climate zones. There is a lot of land above the Tropic of Capricorn, which lies in the tropical zones, then the land directly South of it is a temperate climate and then it is a cooler climate. In the North at the moment it is the wet season, this rain falling all in the North does not affect the South where it is a hot summer now and where the fires are raging, the railways are buckled and the power stations can't cope because of the demand of airconditionings, fans etc. This is Australia all over, a country of great contrasts. I hope you can imagine a bit of the situation here. I know it is hard for people in the UK.

Amazing that the temps are getting that high M, I still feel like this is a consequence of global climate change. The continental climate range like Australia and North America have is extremely wide. I can remember staying with my grandmother in Oklahoma (center of the country) in the summer when it was 103F and go back at Christmas and there would be 2 feet of snow!
That's continental weather for ya! But even so that seems way to HOT!

I am not surprised and I don't think it has much to do with climate change as the whole world is crying about. Climates have always changed, we've had ice ages and hot ages. It would be wise to try and cut down on pollution, like recycling and not throwing things outof the car. Our nice bush and park lands are being litterally littered with rubbish of human waste. Little creatures can die inside a plastic bottle for instance, our waterways are getting dirtier etc. We all know. If only we would plant more trees and throw no more rubbish in the environment we'd be a good way on the right track. As for the high temperatures here in the country, extremes have always happened and are still the case. Australia is a land of extremes, too much, too little, too cold, too hot, too windy, too calm, etc. Records are broken all the time and we get used to it. I have been here for 42 years Wohlibuli and I have always seen this happen. I remember when my son was born 40 years ago it was 106 F ( we were still in Fahrenheit then ), pretty hot to go into labor. It was like that for 10 days, the day I came home we had a cool change. We had no airconditioning in the car and I carried him in a towel. He only wore a nappy, lol. For Adelaide it was really hot, 46C, but that temperature is regular in the desert in QLD. Every summer it occurs for a few days. Now there is too much rain. Would you believe they've had half a meter of rain in 24 hours only about 300 kms South from here? But 200 kms North of here they have 5 meters of rain every year. It's just monsoonal rain and we had 3 inches overnight. The raingauge is filling up again....
Only 10 years ago in the West they were complaining the winters were getting too dry.....Now it rains in the summer. Nature usually corrects itself and nothing stays ever the same. Just hop along with the changes for better or worse is my advice. LOL.
Oh, and....and this is not unusual. The flooding down South has cut off roads and even rails. So, after the panic buying of Cairns residents in the weekend because the cyclone was coming ( and didn't do anything here ), now we can't get any supplies through and the shops are still empty. I am just going to check the bridge ( on internet ) and I bet you it's flooded again, so we just have to start on our ration of tinned food, lol. Perhaps I will eat those roots of the taro plant after all, haha.

Well done Marguerite! I'm with you - enough already! Down here we've had rain now for 32 days and now there's a cyclone crossing the coast somewhere near Cardwell - that's all we need!
