This is just a short blog about the weather. I really think the season has broken and we are now in the wet season. This morning again, it was dark and damp and I don’t think I saw any sunshine today. By lunchtime we were, like every day, sitting on the veranda outside, when the rumbling started. Today it was right over our head and I did see quite a few lightning strikes. The dogs were nowhere to be found, I knew then, one would have hidden in the pantry and the other under our bed! Then the heavens opened and it bucketed down, the first real tropical downpour of this summer. Well, summer officially starts here on December 1st. As we had finished our tropical fruit for desert ( our own paw paw and bought banana’s ) sprinkled over with lime juice ( our own limes ) and I was tidying the dishes away another loud bang and then….the power went off again. The filter in the fishpond stopped, the ceilingfans stopped, the fridge went dead etc. etc. It was very dark inside and I couldn’t see if I had cleaned the benchtop properly or not. And I was going to do the ironing! Never mind. There was nothing else I could do than sit outside in the front, where it was lighter and read a book. Lucky I had vacuumed the fishpond in the morning, so at least that was looking good. I was getting bored after a while, really wanted to internet, grrrr. It took 3 hours before the power came on again. You can phone the power people and all we heard was this recording naming all the places which were outof power. A whole region.
Because of the rain I could not go in the garden either, whilst I really should do that hedge again which is slowly but surely blocking our view ( the one you see in the picture ). Perhaps I get a chance tomorrow. Also the lawns need mowing badly ( hubbies job ), but you can’t do that when the grass is too wet either.
These are trying times, they teach a person to be patient. And I am a bad one for that!
Oh, and b.t.w. we had nearly an inch of rain in that time. Of course now it is dry and dark…..

Thanks Spritzhenry for reading my blog. True true. Yes, I always love summer, even the ones we have with a lot of rain.

I'm with you Marguerite. Just a little cooperation is all I ask. When I'm in the mood and have the time, energy and equipment to get things done in the yard, things like the weather, sunrise, etc should be right too. I was in just that spot this morning at around 5:00 am (I'm an early riser), however, just as I was going to bound out of the door I noticed it was too dark to see!! I got up before the sun!! Oh well I'll just read my gardening book and sip another cup of coffee! lol.

Good for you Gardengnome. I am afraid these days getting up early is not on my agenda. But I do go to bed late....guess that evens it out. It gets light here at 5.30-6 am, the birds make a racket, but most times I sleep through it. At night, right now the frogs do their share of yelling at each other, so quiet I can't call it here. We are surrounded by so much nature that you can even hear it. I am getting immune to it, when I am tired.

Oh no those poor books! =) Enjoyed your blog Marguerite, sounds a lot like Houston it also rains here more in summer...but the season I enjoy the most in Houston is now, when it's much cooler yet still warm enough to grow things and when walking outside (and workingon the pots) is not unbearable! Yesterday the wind threw a grape tomato down, today I have to pick all the ripe ones so i can get to eat them! =)

Here in England feel we are losing the seasons as we knew them taking what mother nature throws at us with a pinch of salt...

Thank you Clarice, Raquel and Bonkerbon for reading my blog. I like your philosophic approach Bonkersbon. There really is nothing we can do about it: the weather has a mind of its own and we are just to obey and act accordingly. Here too Raquel, lots of rain and the build up of all these huge cloud formations and then all of a sudden, bang! Still, I wouldn't want it any other way, even though going to bed at night resembles stepping in a warm bath....

Sounds typical! It would make life a lot easier if there were a rule that it must rain at night and not in the daylight hours. An inch of rain sounds a lot. Lucky you to be moving into summer - we are into winter over here, of course! :-(
