Do any of our members here at GOY ever feel like they want to reorganise their photo”s, but without losing all the comments and likes of them? Well, I would LOVE to do that. My pictures are all over the place and I would rather see them in organised groups. If we would only be able to drag and drop our pictures to the position we want, I would be so happy. I think this feature is missing from the site. Also I think it would be so much easier finding your own pictures as you don’t have to go back page by page by page, in doing so forgetting what you were actually looking for. Posting a picture, unless it has just been taken, is often a guess:” Did I already post this one or not”?
Am I the only wondering person here or have others also been wanting to organise their pictures. Not so bad if you have a few, but by now I have posted nearly 700 and I probably have copied many already, which doesn’t look too good.
Thus my request to Peter: Is it possible to include this feature into the site? When you can go to a page with thumbnails and see all your pics on one page, click on one and drag it into the spot you want it to be.
Thank you all for reading this blog and I shall look fwd to hearing your comments or ideas on this one.

GoY seems to currently work on the system that photos are filed by the date order in which they were posted, so maybe it would be difficult to arrange pictures in any other way.

A few weeks back I asked Peter, if it would be possible to rearrange my homepage of favourite photos uploaded by other members. Peter sent a very prompt and friendly reply, explaining that unfortunately this wasn't possible on GoY.

For those interested, I wanted to group together all members' photos in themes. You are such excellent photographers! :o)

I'd hoped to move to one area of my page my GoY footwear collection - your amazing pictures of wellies, boots, shoes and socks! :o)

Then also organise groups of my favourite birds, pet dogs, blue flowers, and trees, including some with very unusual names, such as the Sausage Tree - thanks, Delonix1. :o)

I also asked Peter if there was a limit to the number of favourite photos I could select. The good news is no -
We can have as many fav. pics. as we want. Spritz's parakeets flew over to my collection yesterday. :o)

Marguerite, I'm astounded by your huge collection of excellent photos. Wonderful. And I'm totally amazed by your great knowledge of plants and trees !

So glad you are on GOY. :o)

One way of doing a similar thing is to put tags on the photos. e.g. I've tagged all my fuchsia photos with a tag that sais 'fuchsias' . By clicking on the word 'fuchsias' on my photo page I can see all my fuchsia photos together.
You can go to my photos page to see what I mean. I'm not very good explaining .

Hello Hywel :
I've just tried that on your page and it worked well. :o)

Good . Hope it helps you.
All the best.

I don't know if you can do it with other members' photos.

I don't think so, but I found all your fuchsias! :o)

Mmm Hywel, that might be one way of going about it. I will have to look into it.
I just want to be able to have say: all my beach photo's together, all my flowers, trees, general garden pics etc. just so I can look at what I have posted in the past. As I have many pages with pics now, I wished there was an easy way to check if I posted a certain pic before or not. Besides for the viewers too it is much easier and userfriendly if they look for say: tropical fruit trees or Dutch country scenes, to give one example. If the tagging works, that will mean I have to tag 700 pictures, probably a monks task! It is so easy when all pics can be viewed in one glance and then drop and drag them to the places where they belong.
I was just thinking of another wish, or perhaps I haven't found out how it is done yet: can you see who put you as a favourite member? Right now one has to plough through all the messages of the inbox to find the automated messages.LOL.
I think Peter likes suggestions and ideas, a challenge to get the webmaster thinking in HTML language, one I really hate!

It's easier to tag photos as you enter them. It took me ages to do my fuchsias but now I do them as I go along.

I don't know of a way to tell who put you as a favourite but I think everyone is my favourite really. I can't get round to telling all of them.

Hi Marguerite,

There are a couple of ways to organise your photos.

Like Hywel says, the tags are our way of grouping them. If you think of them as album names, you can tag a photo twice and it will appear in 2 albums (e.g. summer and roses). You can add tags when you upload a photo, when you edit it, and when you're looking at one of your own photos (a little box at the bottom right).

You can also link photos to plants in your garden, so you can view photos of a plant in one place.

We don't have any plans for drag and drop photo sorting, but it's good to hear your thoughts. :o)

Thanks for your answer Peter. I have to really sit down and follow your instructions.

Hi Peter, I have tried, but it doesn't work out. When I tag my pics, then click on it, I don't only get to see my pics. It defeats the purpose of being able to see your posted pics in one glance, so you can group them for your own benefit, say tropical flowers and you can have all your flowers together, same for old garden, new garden, trees etc. This just cannot happen, so don't worry about it. Perhaps I will just make a list of all the pics I have posted. I just don't want to be repeating too many pictures. I cannot remember what I've put here, which trees etc. and it is too hard to go back page by page.
Regards, Marguerite.

Hi Marguerite,

Try going to your homepage and clicking on your photos tab.

Above your photos is a list of the tags you added. Click on one of those to get just your own pictures. Does that help?

Great Peter, now I finally can get to work. Thanks!

I now have started to go back to adding garden photo's. I have discovered I had put a tree twice. There doesn't seem to be an option to delete this one. It has no use there. Any suggestions how to delete a garden photo in the garden plants list?

But, even then... im very happy for have joined the GOY :)

Hi Marguerite!

I use the "garden" tab" on my homepage to organise my pics into categories, such as "shrubs and climbers",
"perennials", etc. I have 9 headings, and when I upload a pic, I can link it into one of those headings at time of upload, thus "filing" it. Take a look if you want.

Marguerite, I omitted to mention that the idea was given to me by Chrispook, via a blog by Ajay on diary-keeping. It solved a quite major headache for me, and I find the ability to do this a very important resource. Many, Many Thanks, Chris and Ajay!
