My lilac tree.

My lilac tree.

I can see
My lilac tree
A life so old,
a life untold.
The secrets inside
of times aglide.
Centuries past
and it still last.
Branches break
and bark bits flake.
Roots guard the grave
of a horse so brave
who’s burried below;
seedlings will grow.
The lilac knows all
what goes on in the fall.
The cold of the winter
will make it splinter,
but the spring
will bring
the dew
and the new.
My lilac farewell!
I know I can tell
you will remember
me in September
and every month of the year.
In my thoughts you are near.
The kids played in you
and I climbed you too.
rid you of weeds
and prickly seeds.
For ever my tree
You will be with me.

Marguerite.

That was beautiful. Nothing better than poetry about a garden or a special plant.

Thank you Wohlibuli and Wolf. Whenever I think of that tree I feel homesick, strange....

Not strange at all, Marguerite. I loved this house when I first saw it because the Mimosa trees reminded me of my G'mothers house, she had a huge one that was great for shade and climbing, we used to sit under that tree and eat ice cream in the summertime!

Thank you Irish and Wohlibuli I can so understand what you say. That lilac tree was on our farm, where we first lived in 1967. Quite close to it and in front of the hayshed were three or 4 huge old pine trees, which were very shady and majestic. But we found out they were full with white ants and posed a danger to us, in case branches or the whole tree would collapse, so we had to cut them down. It changed our view and a bit of the romance was gone from the farm. But we replaced them with other trees. Life must go on!

I didn't even know that lilacs could be trees! I've only ever seen lilacs as shrubs, but what a beautiful, rambling sort of tree it is!
