Tulip Time 2008 - Wow!

Hi everyone,
Well our “Tulip Time” has come and gone again for another year – hard work it was too. We totalled approximately 3,000 visitors (including GOY members – it was wonderful meeting those who managed to make it.) Our second NGS day was total bedlam with 1,300 visitors during the day – too many for comfort really – the queues for teas and the loo went on forever! Even though I had been baking for months and filled 3 freezers, we still ran out of cake!

Dek has already stripped out all 20,000 tulips and prepared the ground for summer bedding. It was such a shame, a few varieties of tulips hadn’t even come into flower but with our timing for summer visiting we had to take them out in order to start planting fairly soon. We’ll just have to hope we don’t get too many late frosts!

A friend has taken hundreds of photos so as soon as he’s done his editing we’ll post some images for our friends on GOY to see. Another professional photographer is coming in a week or so to take snaps of the foxgloves in the wood – there are great swathes of them carpeting the woodland so they should look beautiful when they come into flower. I can’t wait to see the finished photos.

It’s so nice to get back to normal again, if only briefly!

A beautiful garden to see, and cake to eat ! No wonder you had so many visitors. You must be exhausted, but very pleased. What a pitty about the tulips that didn't open. It seems such a waste. I'm looking forward to seeing the photographs.

Congratulations on a successful opening. My big day is tomorrow but on nothing like your scale (we usually get around 60 visitors and our record is 'only' 132!)
