One week to go!!!

Everything’s getting frantic now with only 7 days to go till the first of our two open days for the NGS this year. The tulips are starting to come into flower at long last (this time last year they were well out and we were having to shade them against the scorching sun!!!), the cakes are all made (3 freezers full), tea marquee erected, freestanding pots of tulips changed around once, twice, three times, baskets up, greenhouse filled full of goodies, paths swept, lawns cut, etc. etc.
This week, just in the nick of time, our woodcarver has been to complete several fantastic features – we now have a green man, snake and owls carved into some of the larger trees in the woodland (he assures us it doesn’t harm the growth of the trees, so I hope he’s right.) Besides that he’s carved another large owl, a badger, squirrel, fox, snail, and lots of toadstools – it’s looking great.
Our nature centre now has lots of interesting bits and bobs, donated by friends and acquaintances – everything from a selection of antlers to beekeeping equipment – and this week we have our first group of schoolchildren visiting so I hope they enjoy it.
Tomorrow we have all the tables and chairs to clean, tulips to label, garage to clean out ready for converting into a tearoom and so on. Why do we do it you may ask? Well, we meet some wonderful folk – some are regulars who come back year after year, like old friends, and besides it keeps us out of mischief!!!
Oh, by the way, the rabbit hole names are all in place and looking great – thank you again for your fantastic suggestions.
We’ll post lots of photos afterwards when we have more time but in the meantime, we hope some of you will be able to come and see us, and those who can’t, wish us luck!

Thanks everyone for your good wishes - for the next 3 weeks I'm afraid it's "over and out" - we have 3 solid weeks of garden parties to arrange, so bye for now.
