Rabbit hole names

Posted on 3 Nov, 2007 35 comments

Hi folks, we have a request to make – a rather strange one but one which is bound to cause quite a few chuckles along the way – please everyone join in!

As some of you may have read on our website (click on link at the end of this blog), we open our garden for the NGS each Spring and as part of their visit people like to take a stroll along our woodland walk. The path will be extended this year and thus our need for your help.

Whilst we have managed to keep rabbits out of the garden by erecting a rabbit fence around the perimeter, our furry friends do have a free reign in the woodland and have dug innumerable holes. For a laugh, we always put a sign outside each rabbit hole depicting some sort of profession or facility (see the 3 photos we’ve just added to Grows on You to get an idea of the principle.) For next year we’ll obviously need lots more ideas and as ours have run dry over the years, we desperately need the assistance of your grey matter!

So far we’ve come up with:
Buck, Teeth & Co. – Dental Surgeons
Doug Deephole & Sons – Excavation Machinery Hire
Happy Hoppers Day Nursery
Dr. Bunny Boiler – Marriage Guidance Counsellor
The Pines Residential Rest Home for Retired Rabbits…..

you get the gist. Please come up with lots of ideas everyone – the sillier the better, but please remember the signs have to make suitable reading for both adults and children! Many, many thanks.

Many thanks AndrewR for 4 more excellent suggestions. Particularly liked Mr Digwell. Unfortunately someone told us today that hares don't dig burrows so we may not be able to use hare-related names. Shame that because we've had some really great ones from everyone. So it looks as though we'll have to think of more rabbit-related names instead!

No doubt you've already realised the biggest and grandest hole belongs to that well-known rabbit actor Warren Beattie?!

Or the unfinshed hole is the Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunny-an?

Thanks AndrewR. Not only are you an expert on plants but you also have a knack for choosing fantastic rabbit hole names! Would never have thought of either Warren Beattie or John Bunny-an - very clever.

Hi, I think that i maybe 2 late for the hole-naming, but may I suggest the following? A sign outside a hole saying "Rodger - I'm out!". Or have a hole with floral planting around, depicting a (garden) designer Irish theme pub named "Bunny Guiness"?

Hi David, sorry I haven't replied before now - haven't logged on for a few days. You're definitely not too late for hole-naming and many thanks for the suggestions. Not only are we going to give the holes names, we've also come across someone who's going to wood carve a few rabbits peeping out of unused holes - it should look good!
