I’ve just been reading mazz’s blog, I too have ventured into veggie growing recently. Have tried a few things in the garden but my enthusiasm was greater than the space available and hubby and I took on an allotment this year. Got the key to the site late June, allotment had been abandoned for 6 years, you can imagine what its like! However we’re chipping away, and have managed to clear enough space to plant a few potatoes, some onions and leeks, 3 courgette plants, some dwarf french beans and some broccoli and caulis. Basically anything we could pick up as baby plants from markets or garden centres so late in the season! So far so good and we’ve already picked loads of beans and courgettes but were too inexperienced to know we should have protected the broc and caulis and then caterpillars demolished them almost overnight. I suspect we may end up learning a lot of lessons the hard way! Consolation is, I suppose, that we’re doing our bit for wildlife!
