Visit to the Blue Mountains National Park

I’ll just take you on a little trip up to the Blue Mountains National Park. A three hour drive west of Sydney, and what a change in scenery and temperature!..From 27degs down to 7degs…and up to a height of 1100 mtrs! Here are just a few pics of the best bits…:o)

Rising early we set off just as the sun began to colour the sky.

Further west and the temperature is rapidly dropping….a cool mist hovering above the river.

That old boat there is a paddle steamer giving trips up and down the river.

Gradually climbing, the small towns we travel through show that Autumn is already here with a show of beautiful Acers.

Here we are now at Katoomba, and this sheer rock cliff face shows how awe inspiring this beautiful park is.

These rock formations are called The Three Sisters. Legend has it that they had been turned to stone by an Aboriginal Medicine man who sought to protect them.

The blue haze over the mountains is due to the Eucalyptus oil infiltrating the air and turning the atmospheric rays blue.

Look how high we are now……the same height as the small group of clouds!

This is Jim taking us around……:o)

This is Jim’s latest design……..rainforest trees and birds…for the Mount Franklin Water Company……they have just reached the shops and stores here…I thought it mirrored the Blue Mountains perfectly……:o))

What a great experience it must have been to go there Janey. Such fantastic scenery. I found it interesting that the eucalyptus oil gives the air a blue haze.
I like Jim's design. It really suits the Blue Mountains

Aw...thanks for all the lovely comments...I'm so pleased you enjoyed it...:o)

Fancy going to the top of Vesuvius Bloomer...I bet the view was increduble...did you see Pompeii too? I'd love to go to Italy...:o))

Thanks San, it;s good to see his work...I had to pack as much in in 2 weeks cos that'll be it again for a few years...:o(

Do you know Fp.....the climate change in just those few kilometres was amazing
on the coast everyone in summer things and then up through the autumn and smokey chimneys and winter wear!

I brought a couple of pieces of his work Gee, but not the bottle, they're so stringent at the airport...I didn't want it taking away.......

I really loved it Bb and Hywel, wouldn't mind living there if we could afford it...:o((
Lol Minihoney...welcome to Goy!!

A fantastic trip Amy...there were lots of ladies on their own like me on the flights, so you were never without someone to chat too. Pleased you like the design..only in Oz though, so we won't see it here.....

I spent seven years in OZ and the family used to go to the Blue Mountains for hols. A change from the beaches and bbqs. I was based outside Melbourne but still miss the people and the weather.

I bet you do Gardener08.....it really is a special place to visit...looking forward to my pension, then we can go for longer...:o))

What lovely scenery there in Oz! They say you learn something new everyday - well, we've learnt that Eucalyptus oil can turn the air blue! LOL!

I find stories, like the Three Sisters, fascinating!

BTW, how long did the flight over there take?

29 May, 2010

Ha Balcony! The flight took 24hours...but 33hours in time as they are 9hours in front right now. There were 2 flights.....Manchester to Abu Dhabi 7hours....then onto Syd.....14hours.

29 May, 2010

I find I can hardly put up with a 2 1/2 hour flight to Madrid!!! I think I'd go mad on a flight that long! Just imagine what it must have been like before planes were able to make the journey - a journey to "Down Under" would have taken months! It wouldn't have been in a luxury cruise ship either with all the mod cons we take for granted nowadays!

29 May, 2010

Certainly wouldn't Balc....would've been in the hold of a ship...whether you wanted to go or not!
I must admit I worried about the length of the flying time.....all that space underneath for so long.....but there was lots to do and eat...oh, and drink...:o))
