A quiet afternoon, I’d cleared dead leaves from the benches of the greenhouse, checked the Fuchsias and French Lavenders, and thought I would clear up some of the debris in the borders, and fork over the soil, alone, or so I thought.

A flurry of wings and a flash of red and brown, and there he was just inches away, waiting to grub around in the dug over soil, bright eyes and tail flicking. Even on a dull, misty January afternoon, there is a joy there to lift your heart….:o)

Those are brilliant photos Janey. I can't figure out how on earth you took them, and how your friend Robin didn't take off after the first click/flash. You must have been so very quiet and still. Wonderful.

BB, that must be you then Ray...Lol Not a word...quick, pick up the paintbrush before Jane comes home...Lol!

He's really friendly......and waited while I got my camera...did zoom in, though he was only a few feet away...then he sat in the Tamarix tree while I was busy under it.:o)

20 Jan, 2010

You've either got a very tame Robin or a 300mm zoom. they really are fantastic pics. Your eagerness to get started puts me to shame as I haven't set foot in the garden yet.

20 Jan, 2010

great photos!

20 Jan, 2010

Lovely pics, I always have a Robin sitting and watching when I garden.

20 Jan, 2010

Lovely pictures Janey, mine won't stay still long enough, and he's been too busy today getting all territorial and fighting with every other robin that dare set foot in his garden, lol.

20 Jan, 2010

Thankd Hw,and Drc.......Lol Simbad....mine is the sole owner, so he seems to be chilled out...:o)
Heron, he is getting tamer, I tend to be near him but not looking at him, only for the pics.....not sure about the mm, but it does 18X, there's a lot of stuff on it I haven't tried but I like the intelligent auto best, there's a burst mode to try yet, great for a selection of pics and then choosing the best...........

21 Jan, 2010

Janey, 18X zoom, wow! What camera is it? Mine is a Nikon D90 with only 12X zoom., I'll have to bribe my Robin with worms to get a pic like yours.

21 Jan, 2010

Beatiful pics..........its so lovely when the birds follow you round the garden.....my robin is still shy...

21 Jan, 2010

Thanks for all the kind comments......:o)

Janey my friend is a keen and experienced photographer and says that the best cameras are the larger DSLR's (if you know how to use it) I had to laugh as his wife's just bought a Panasonic FZ28 like yours. Are you going to take photography more seriously? It's interesting and ties in with computers nicely.

26 Jan, 2010

I love it Heron, but am finding my way slowly.....a course would be great and would teach me how to use it fully I bet......ha..ha....I bet his wife will love her new camera...they be able to compare pics...:o) Thanks for the idea......X
Just having a look at your profile Heron, are doing a course??

26 Jan, 2010

I did a course at the local school but it was more about computers than cameras. A proper course would be expensive so I just learn as I go, with help from my friend. I have a a set of five lessons on a pdf file, they are very good, just text and, uncomplicated. If you like I'll email them to you.

26 Jan, 2010

diging at this time of year you have to be cairful ,they will sit on your spade looking for worms, they do not have much fear of anemals as big as us they desend from birds that follow anemals that disturb insects, not to take anything away from the photoes they are brilent, if you get some mealie worms you could have it eating out of your hand in no time ,

26 Jan, 2010

Thanks for that Cliffo......interesting comment, I'm going to have a look on Google about their ancestry....:o)

27 Jan, 2010

27 Jan, 2010

A brilliant blog, Janey! I really loved those close up photos of your Robin!

Sanbaz, I believe the word you were looking for is "preening" not "pruning"!

27 Jan, 2010

Thanks Balcony! San...my boy Jim always used to say pruning instead of preening....that's what made me laugh...:o)

27 Jan, 2010
