this seems to be a serious problem, allottment buddies have contact with farmers who are finding large crops devastated. Leeks r going 2 b an expensive veg, I think.

yes best to grow in a pot it may self seed, so be careful

its a small garden approx 20 feet wide x 30 foot long.(sorry I'm to old to think in metric. :-) ) laid to gravel, it was impossiblt to cut the lawn in winter, with a heart condition I needed an low maintenance garden. small beds I can sit down to work and a pegola to give height via clematis and a wisteria, have a lot of pots sown with bulbs and seasonal flowers plus veg. Little and often is my motto.

raised beds are made from linka board, recycled plastic that are rot proof and easily assembled have grown Broad beans, onions, sweet corn and Courgettes, tried dwarf french beans but slugs and snails had them. tried butternut squash good growth but poor fruit. Have just planted chinese winter veg, will plant onions and winter sowing of broad beans after sweetcorn used up. Also grown Aubergines in small greenhouse cloche.

Fyne Court is the Home of Somerset Wildlife Trust. the stones are part of the landscape left over from the estate buildings, I think.

yes, when I had an allotment I never used peat only compost (home) and manure. For raise beds I need to buy in "soil" hence the experiment.

yes I do, and I recycle as much as I can. In Sedgemoor we have a composting facilty and the compost is sold back to people. It was just I wanted to do an experment to see If the claim that non peat compost is as good if not better than peat based, was true. For me the claim is not true.

tks for comments, I do try to be eco friendly, but I'm not sure if every thing we are told is correct, I like to find things out for myself. In somerset we have local peat moors so it is quite an issue here.

Much the same problem, thinking of pulling mine up, all otdoors, best ones are some I grew from a cheap packet of seed from Lildl's.Neighbour has had mould in his greenhouse from too humid conditions.will let u know if we manage to eat our own this year or its green tomato chutney once again!!

agree with others, but have an alternative method, plant garlic or chives with your rose, rose absorbs ,black and greenfly dont like the taste and leave alone. Have tried it seems to work.
