Garden toadstool sculptures. Blog 11.

We commissioned a collection of wooden garden toadstool sculptures that have been hand made by a sculptor. We collected them today, and they have been placed in the garden.
The largest is one metre high, and is made from a solid piece of English Elm. It has been hand carved and has been polished to a beautiful smooth and fine finish. The wood has been oiled to bring out the lovely grain and mellow honey colour. The stem of the toadstool has been carved in a spiral, twisted shape.
It will be protected from severe weather, and will not remain permanently outdoors, as we do not want to spoil the beautiful finish.
The underside of the toadstool even has its ‘gills’ where, in a real toadstool, the spores are produced.
The three smaller toadstools are mounted on copper spikes so that the copper will eventually develop a lovely green patination. The new sculptures surround the ‘stumpery’ alongside the pond.
The stumpery is a collection of hollow tree trunks that are planted with various ferns.
With best wishes,
Grenville & Alan.

Ah! Now I understand what you were telling me about, Grenville! They are lovely and beautifully made by the look of them. No wonder you will have to over-winter the biggest one indoors! I was imagining stone ones - lol.

very nice, they look at home in your garden. did they take long to make?

There is a lot of work involved Lyd. They are cut out from solid pieces of wood, then carved, shaped, smoothed and polished..... it's a time consuming process.

Beautiful, beautiful!! The delicate shade of the toadstools
and planting around make this a real Faerie Grotto, I love it!
All the shades of grey/blue/green with these wonderful fawn coloured toadstools are the colours I love. Fantastic!
