Meet Checkers!

I’ve been following all your lovely blogs about your various animals and thought you might like to met “Checkers”.

Her favourite toy!

This is how she sleeps – up by my neck against my heart – I guess I’m Mum now…

Yes she eats plants too!!!

She was born in a little plastic greenhouse beside my shed (does that count as a gardening blog I wonder as she was born in the garden….!!) and my neighbour came round and said her cat had come home looking very skinny!!! could I check my garden… out I went in my nighty and dressing gown and there were three little tiny kittens – so I carefully picked them up two in my pockets and one carried very carefully over my veggie patch, round the back of the garden (with the mum following me) back to my neighbours. It was a good job we did as that evening we had our first frost. Anyway the short story was that the mum cat was only a little un herself and couldnt take care of the kittens so we ended up handrearing the kittens. When she was first born Checkers was white with four black squares on her back (which have now extended further!!) hence Checkers!!.

She has just taken over our family – I have two 6ft 3ins boys and they are like putty when it comes to her!! She has completed our family – after I lost my old cat “Cadbury” after 18 years I was really devestated he was one of the family and swore blind I wouldnt have another.. but guess what I wouldnt swap little Checkers for the world she is such a pleasure to come home to!! She is staying in until shes had her injections and been “done!!” but then its the outside world (worse than having kids at least you can tell them!!)

You didn't say what became of the other 3 kittens though .... did the neighbour and yourself rear them in her house ???
What happened to the little mother cat ? ?
Is she safe and well ??

Well I would definitely say it was a gardening blog, Checkers DID come from your greenhouse didn`t she?! What a pretty little kitten, I`ll bet she finds lots of things to entertain her. :o)

Lovely to meet little Checkers and thanks for telling her story so well.
She has pretty markings.

Unfortunately the other two died soon after, but the mum cat is doing well, she was just too young herself to look after them (such a shame but makes me even more determined to get Checkers "done" - there are plenty of little kittens out there that need good homes without adding to them!!)

Thank you all for your kind comments she is such a character!! She sits on my sons shoulder when he is playing on his playstation and then jumps on to the t.v to try to catch the cars!! problem is that he ends up crashing on the game because hes laughing so much at what shes doing so his score isnt quite as good as normal!!!

She's terribly sweet.
And asleep even more precious. What bliss!
Terribly cute.
The story of her birth - a beautifully moving story.
Your boys - but such a creature repays all your adoration a thousand times.
Yes, when you lose a cat you need time to get over it before you can get another.
I can just see her going for those cars!

Gurthbruins, We lost our precious cat to feline diabetes last year and one thing that helped me greatly in the "grieving process" was to compile all of her photos and videos into a "Youtube Video" and upload a "memorial" about her life that could be viewed forever. Here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/v/3TYRz0UhnKc
Hope this works.. I put a lot into that video of our baby..
We have since adopted two little "brothers" from a "mama cat" that we found at an animal shelter and they have been the best thing since "sliced bread"!

N2organics, thank you for commenting - I've just looked at your video and enjoyed it very much, it ran with pauses the first time but a replay was perfect - I thought the music was VERY suitable and the commentary very well done... Long live Midnight !

Thank you all for your comments - shes growing a quite a pace now - long and slim but I think she will need a large bell on her collar as she thinks she can get the seagulls from inside (high hopes!!) shes due to be done in April and then can go out!!

Gurthbruins, I have a little "tip" on watching video on the net:
When any video starts playing, hit the "pause button" and wait a minute or more.

Video often exceeds the bandwidth that most internet providers can muster and "pausing" it for a while allows the video to "build up" in your computer's "Buffer memory". After a minute, click "play" and there will no longer be any pauses on any videos! :-)
