Flower Festival

I thought you might like to see the various displays put on in the church of a nearby village last weekend. The theme was to recognise those who serve the community in so many different ways.

There were many other displays depicting other organisations, both local and national. It was a really good show. My daughter’s favourite was the display in appreciation of the Fire Service. Mine? It has to be the RNLI one, even if only for the cute little sheep :)

Oh thanks so much Gee, what a clever inventive flower festival, utterly inspired, I keep thinking 'thats the best' then find the next!

love the mountain rescue dog....☺

But the red and white flowers for the medical staff....blood and bandages......according to a florist friend who disliked them together as a gift

each display so well designed, better than some seen at Chelsea!

To me Terra they look like the body is made from a teasel ( very apt!)

What wonderful, imaginative displays Gee. If I HAD to pick one out it would have to be 'Teachers' being a retired teacher myself, but really they are all fantastic.

thanks for sharing the festival. I love floral creations that have a good link to an event or service.

What a clever and inspiring idea, so beautifully created, and such a pretty church too. Thanks Gee.

Thank you for bringing us this wonderful floral tribute to those who serve us. I love the RNLI display but I had a funny feeling when looking at the medical one. We were never allowed to put red and white flowers together in a vase in a ward. Matron would have had a fit if Sister had not already sorted it out.

Lovely displays Gee.... love the sheep too... :)

I love them all but the display that made me smile was the midwives, love it, thank goodness for all of our services - brilliant displays and lovely that you took the time to post the blog and pictures, thank you :O)

I can't choose - the imagination arrangers have just gobsmacks me. Its a pity about the red and white superstition though. I had a red and white wedding (in December), red velvet bridesmaids, white velvet dress and flowers to match. There were no dire consequences fortunately. We had never heard of the bandages thing, but its understandable in people who have to deal with accidents.

Thank you for all the lovely photos.

They are all lovely but I also think the RNLI tops them, thankyou Gee for sharing your lovely photo's...

Thank you all for your lovely comments. Sorry it's taken a few days to get back to you but I went down with a tummy upset and have been feeling a bit weak and woolly :( Better today, thank goodness so will try and do some catching up again soon.

Yes, TT, the little sheep were teazles but I wasn't tall enough to get a closer look at them and my daughter forbade me to climb up to take a closer look :)

You are incorrigible Gee. Climb up to take a look indeed. So sorry to hear you have been under the weather and hope you make a full recovery soon.

Loved those displays. They were so creative ... :)

Lovely photos Gee. I love church flower displays, as people make such a huge effort. I like the teazel sheep, people are so clever, and the font midwifery display. The church near us that used to do a flower show is no longer in its original service format...changing times. Being short can be very frustrating at times. I saw the blue berried flowers(first picture) at Hyde Hall last Wednesday in The Queen Mothers Garden. Noted as Solanum Lacunatum Dianella Caerulea growing in shade. Phew, hope I got it right. It glows in the shade.

Thanks, Scotsgran. I've had experienced of 'climbing' as I have just redecorated my living room :)

Thanks, Hywel and Dorjac. Thanks too for naming those berries, Dorjac. Just googled them and appear to be quite rare - wish I'd looked closer now :)

Now I am having visions of you rushing around camera in one hand while you lug along a step ladder just like a professional photographer waiting to catch a glimpse of a celebrity. LOL.

I like, when the church is decorated with flowers. When I was in Scotland, we visited an old Scottish church and I was surprised how many retired people worked there as volunteers. They were very optimistic, making jokes from us and our English and it was all very friendly...
