Blog 19: BBC Gardeners' World

Posted on 29 Apr, 2008 16 comments

Two horticulturalists came last Friday from BBC Gardeners’ World. They spent an hour and a half with us and filmed with a camcorder. It was our screen test and we passed!

We had a phone call from the producer today to say that they want to spend a day with us in May, filming the spring garden, and then come back in the summer and autumn. We don’t know if the sessions will be televised together or separately. It may not be shown until next year.

That is very interesting. How did they know about your garden? I suppose this happend because you are on the open gardens list? You sound really happy about going to be on t.v. I think your garden looks fabulous. Congratulations.

At the end of one of BBC Gardeners' World programmes they suggested that we load up to their section of the website: Flickr any atmospheric photos of our gardens. One of ours showing some pink camellias enshrouded in snow was shown on a later programme. We have our website address at the bottom of our photos and that's how they accessed our own website www.fourseasonsgarden.co.uk. They emailed us to ask if they could do a screen test of us and the garden and we passed that. They will be doing at least 6 days of filming - but it will probably end up as 10 minutes of footage!

We've had over 3000 visitors since October 06. The TV crew have said: "Are you prepared for the onslaught after the feature is aired?" Will have to get a bigger tea urn!

I didn't realize it had already been on telly, but hardly surprise by the onslaught, if I lived closer I would have been one of them

Our feature hasn't yet been televised. We understand that they are going to film throughout the year and put it together into one slot. They started last May, so will probably keep going until March, at least.

However, Monty Don did televise one of our photographs showing a camelia in the snow that came on 6 April this year.
