Having seen this palm in a garden centre, we knew we just had to have it!
\

You have to be ingenious!
\

Luckily, it did fit through the back garage door, but we had to tie ropes to it and to the front of the car in the garage to control it as it went down six steps covered with scaffolding planks.
\

Heave!
\

We had to gradually raise it up to the level of the border by placing planks underneath the pot.
\

Cut off the bottom of the pot
\

It was a very big hole!
\

Putting in compost
\

The start of our jungle!
\

Then we saw the tree ferns in a garden centre! Ferns en route down path
\

\

We put in low growing plants, such as false castor oil and small, grassy bamboo then have a high canopy of palm leaves, paulownia and bamboos
\

We strip off the side growth from the tall bamboos. They are so attractive. The culms come out of the ground the diameter they are going to be – so we prune out the weeklings.

Plants like these are not for the faint hearted! It is quite challenging to even get that size of plant delivered without damaging the paviers. As for getting down the steps and down the garden - well......! But, both of us having had back problems in the past, we are ultra cautious. It's the technique rather than the strength. Furniture removal men are often quite slight in stature - but they have a knack of moving things.
