We moved to this house in 1982 but were very busy looking after 4 children born in 5 years, and a Rottweiller dog! The garden had several overgrown, diseased conifers and 16 apple and pear trees that were past their sell-by date!
In 1985 we relaid the York stone paving area near the house – it had been four small oval beds and we made just two, larger ones. There were also a couple of very large conifers on the right of the lawn that hit the dust one August Bank Holiday when we had a bit of spare time!
We then realised that the garden was very square and it was very difficult to grow anything on the wall.
1993 The wall had to go!
We then curved the lawn and started relaying the rockery using all the york stone rocks that had been submerged.

A super diary showing what your garden was like in the early stages. Its lovely to look back and reflect on your hard work and achievements.
Best wishes and happy gardening,
Grenville and Alan.

The garden is 1/3 of an acre.
It really has paid dividends making a photographic record. Must admit that it was a struggle sometimes to think of going to get the camera - our house is three storeys at the back and that's an awful long way to get the camera from the bedroom - especially when you've got muddy boots to change out of. Still, it is good to look back at the changes we've made in the garden. The children have enjoyed the way it's evolved as they've grown up. They now have BBQs with their friends and enjoy the streams and jungle.
