**OUR WINTER FRONT GARDEN**

This is a very tiny front garden, which has been created to look good in all the seasons, but, I think it always looks best at this time of the year…see what you think……

These last two photographs were taken on October 3rd…..we had just raised the canopy of the mixed hedge, and planted Heucheras , Hellibores, Cyclamen, and Ferns, so much space to play with……what joy!! and considering we have hardly had any rain here for months, everything has taken quite well.

(The large stones in the border are holding some wire netting down, OH has planted bulbs, and the squirrels are on to them in a flash!)

This will not need any more work now until the Spring, it has been mulched to keep in the moisture, and unless it remains dry, it will be watered….
Thanks for reading my blog, hope you enjoyed our mini garden……

Is the mixed hedge the shrubs at the front? What a good idea cutting the branches off the bottom so the 'canopy' sits on the wall. Colourful Cyclamen .

HB thank you so much for your comments, we are really pleased with it....
Siris the hedge took up so much space, it consisted of two large Pyracantha, a Berberis (self sown) and a Euonymus, when the plants grow they will hide the bare trunks, also there is a pretty heart shaped ivy clothing the back wall, pleased you like it, was a spur of the moment decision!!

Yes it looks lovely, and so well planned!
What do you plan to do when the shrubs get bigger?

Beautiful, a perfect front garden. I imagine passers-by stop to gaze, I certainly would ?

The conifers can look a little sad in the height of summer, and mine have their annual 'drop' in early autumn. But at this time of year they really start to shine. And yes, it looks absolutely lovely. A joy for your winter months.

It's a lovely little garden. You've got so much in there. It's nice to have something that looks good all year round :)

Thanks Hywel, my OH did most of the planning I have to admit......
K we have always grown conifers, love all the different shapes and colours, and at this time they do come into their own, glad you like it...
Stera most of the shrubs are pruned every year to keep them small, when they become too large they are either moved to the back garden, or we replace with a new one, so it is always fresh and never tired....
Petal it looks different again with the roses and the clematis......
Dawn because it is behind a wall with the hedge on the top, it is quite private....thanks for your kind comments...

what a beautiful little garden. I think it is really pretty and good planting combo's. The squirrels are a pain aren't they. we often bury netting over the bulbs especially tulips.
look forward to seeing it in the spring :o)

Linda it is pleasant to see when we open the front door.....
Amy because the back garden is very labour intensive, the front needs to be fairly easy....
Seaburn glad you like it, being as there are a lot of evergreen plants, it looks tidy most of the year, thank goodness!! wish we could achieve the same effect in the back garden!
Many thanks for all your lovely comments...

It's a very neat little garden.
Such a shame so many people neglect their front gardens.
It's lovely to have colour and interest, particualrly if it can be stained all year like this.

Paul I do agree with you, there are so many neglected gardens in our road, such a shame......of course there are so many older people living here, I hope ours never gets to that stage....

Many people only care about the back garden where they sit.
