PHEW WAS IT HOT!!

SUNDAY WAS OUR LAST OPEN DAY FOR THE NGS AND WHAT A DAY TO CHOSE, NOT ONLY WAS IT BOILING, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE, BUT IT WAS THE FINALS OF WIMBLEDON WHAT A MISTAKE TO MAKE……

WE HAD A STEADY STREAM OF PEOPLE IN THE MORNING, VERY SENSIBLE, WHO ALL PURCHASED CAKE, AND PLANTS, SO THAT MADE IT WORTH OPENING….

THE GARDEN HAD ONLY JUST RECOVERED FROM OUR GOLDEN WEDDING GARDEN PARTY, SO THE GRASS IS LOOKING A TAD BROWN, JUST NEED SOME RAIN (SORRY)

LOOKING BACK OVER THE YEAR, AND WHAT A YEAR!! WE HAD SPRING AND SUMMER PLANTS ALL OUT TOGETHER, TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!!

SO NOW IT IS TIME TO MAKE PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR, MOVING THE URN IS ON THE LIST, ENLARGING THE GRASS BORDER, MOVING THE BENCH……….AND SO ON!!

JUST A FEW PHOTOS TO FINISH OFF…….

You have to end with some cake…….. our eldest daughter tried her hand at making some larger cakes this time, and they went very quickly as you can imagine…..
Looking forward to making changes, the rose border which we did last Autumn replacing soil for gravel and just using grasses, brown, black and yellow, also Dianthus for perfume with the roses worked well…..
The new pond area has settled down (the water is still green though) and the raised bed with the strawberries has been a great success, also the tomatoes are doing very well,

Our lovely tree fern has several new fronds, and should look a picture in another month, OH has taken to it and would like another one, birthday gift I think!!

Thank you all for looking at my photographs and reading my blogs, the weather looks to be good for the next week at least, so enjoy your garden, and dont work too hard…….

I resorted to hot July mode. Have all doors and windows open 6 - 10 a.m. Then all closed. I stay indoors. Even then it takes me a day to recover when it cools down. Must be
my age or something !

The cakes look delicious Dottie, glad it went well. Your garden looks great, full of interest, and colourful. I love the lavender path. Do you dry the flower heads and make sachets with it?

Pleased it went well Dotty, it was very hot wasn't it. The garden as usual is looking fab, the cakes also look good. I like the driftwood with the heuchera, very effective. You can have a rest now, before tackling the changes !!

So glad OH has taken to the fern after all! :)) the garden is fantastic as usual. So many different areas of interest, and great attention to detail...which is something I am beginning to learn now. Cakes look marvellous, but don't you realise that every time I see a pic of a cake, I put on a pound! Lol ;) x

Lovely pics Dotty, and that Loropetalum looks fantastic . . . do you keep it outdoors all year?!

You've got a lovely garden.....and the cakes don't look bad either!
I notice your Eremerus only has one flower spike...does it usually have more or are there more on the way, or perhaps it's a young plant? The reason I ask is because my yellow one usually has 3 or 4 spike but only has one this year and when I went to Houghton Hall gardens in Norfolk on Saturday they had large clumps of them but only the odd flower.Wondered if it's a bad year for them!!

You garden looks great and the cakes I think Sunday was one of the warmest days I remember for a long time as much as we love the sun it certainly takes it out of us :0)

Kidsgran thanks, it was too hot for me, cannot cope with it now days......
Paul last year we had several spikes from all our Eremurus, there are no more to come, and the rest never bothered to show up, must be the weather.!!
Sheila, it is a pot at the moment and doing so well, I really do not know what to do about planting it in the garden, it would be very annoying to lose it now.
Holly thanks, when I was younger I could stay out all day in the sun, now I find it quite difficult to work when it is that hot!!
Karen sorry about the cake, in future I will put a warning sign up just for you!! the attention to detail sometimes drives OH mad, he has a word for it lol
Cinders thanks, we are slowly getting the garden how we want it....
Lindak one of our neighbours has the lavender and makes sachets with it.
Diane I know how you feel, making cakes in a boiling hot kitchen can be a challenge lol
