It's been a good year for them Angela , mine are still flowering and didn't they grow tall , like yours the colours have been spectacular .. do you save your own seed ?

Gosh! They look fantastic DD.

These are beautiful, I have been pleased with mine too but they aren't as interesting as yours.

They are beautiful and bear elegant flowers. I grew them last year and all wilted and died while in full flower. I decided not to grow them this year in case of some virus in the soil.

Lovely cosmos...

Lovely photos DD...they are lovely flowers aren't they. I particularly like the wine red one. The only ones I have left are the purply pink, but they are growing beside a Eucalyptus in a pot and they look lovely together. I can't bring myself to take them out...so colourful. I'll just leave them until the frosts finish them off.

Aaww thanks so much Dotty, they are just lovely! I only managed to grow white ones this year, so will be more adventurous next time. :))

Love the third one in particular . . . do they have individual names??

I have saved some Angela but wasn't sure if it would be viable .. I might just scatter it about next year and see what happens .......

Such beautiful colours there DD and lovely pics. Cosmos are one of my favourite flowers and although the ones I planted early have now finished I've several just in full flower now. I found these growing in the flower beds, must have self seeded last year, a lovely unexpected bonus :o))

Wow! DD, These are fantastic, love the stripy ones!

4 Oct, 2011

Good job Dd...Love them all...were they called 'sonata mixed'?:>)

4 Oct, 2011

lovely cosmos.i grew them for the first time this year. is it possible to sprinkle the seed where they are to flower, if so is it better to do it in autumn or spring ?

5 Oct, 2011

Yes, I'd like to know the answer to Tulsalady's question too . . . and when to sow others I've collected like white Honesty, Anthriscus 'ravenswing' and red Hollyhocks (lots of those last to spare if anyone would like some).

5 Oct, 2011

I have always started my Cosmos seeds in seed trays under cover,in Spring,Tulsalady...but they don't take long to germinate, and quite easy..and look how big they get in such a short time !..I plant out late May/early June, where I want them to grow...hope this helps..
Sheila,I would scatter some honesty seeds now,and just lightly cover them over...after all, they seed themselves the same way naturally..you could put a few in a pot ,as back up ,but leave it outside in a sheltered place ?

5 Oct, 2011

Many thanks Bloomer - yes of course, you are quite right - just copy Nature!

5 Oct, 2011

thanks bloomer, but i was hoping i could scatter them as i can't bend to put plants in now. old age lol.

5 Oct, 2011

Oh dear, that must be difficult for you,Tulsa..well,its worth a try...It may turn out ok..but maybe in late spring, when it's warmer ?

5 Oct, 2011

Tulsa in early Spring would be fine.....Mot OH has thrown the packet away, typical, he knows they were a mixed seed, and that they were a bipinnatus mix, I thought we had bought them on ebay but, cannot find the details. We try to grow a different variety every year.We will save some of the seed and hope for the best, you never know, thanks for all your comments, pleased you liked them.

thanks Bloomer and Dottydaisy i will hang on till spring then hope for the best.:o)

6 Oct, 2011
