OH and I needed some compost so decided on nearest store Homebase (nectar points) trundled round inside first, and discovered 2 Sarracenias half price, good start…..then we noticed two assistants with those sticker machines and saw that several plants had been reduced, on seeing Yucca at £1.50 grabbed that, then the assistant said “hang on it will be 50 pence in a minute” I could not believe it, and in perfect condition too, we were then told to go outside with him while he reduced even more plants……am I in a dream….pinch me OH….no not that hard!!( sorry got carried away) we purchased several plants at 25 pence and a massive Phoenix Canariensis for 50 pence……..
Am I a happy bunny? I certainly am, will be posting pics soon.

Wow ! everybody will be off to Homebase tomorrow Dd ... just remind me , do I remember you saying that you didn't have room for anymore plants last year ...LOL...

5 Jan, 2011

Well done you! Homebase are great for plant bargains: I got my £20.00 bougainvillea for £4.00 from my local store. All it needed was a quick tidy up after a member of staff had taken a pair of shears to it and cut the top off! You can see the results on my photos section.

5 Jan, 2011

lots of bargains there DD well done, i may have a look in tomorrow if i get chance..:o)

5 Jan, 2011

Amazing Dd......in the right place at the right time......I bet you were beaming when you came out!!

5 Jan, 2011

super shop wonderful bargains.
Can I ask is there anything in the title? there are 3 squares at the beginning and end of the title. I also noticed similar on a couple of other peoples blogs.

5 Jan, 2011

I've got three stars not squares Seaburngirl. Strange!!
Well done DD I think I will visit Homebase tomorrow.

I have three stars !

5 Jan, 2011

Thanks all........apparently they reduce the plants even further to 10 pence!! then they throw them away....sorry forgot to tell you that in all the excitement.
You should be seeing stars not squares, how very odd, must ask you all to let me know what you can see........Sticki could see my umbrellas in my previous blog and I think it was TT who saw my snowmen?
Amy I have lost 40 plants in the last 10 years so I will have to replace them wont I? lol ♥♥l♥have just added 3 hearts can you see them?

5 Jan, 2011

I have 3 stars at beginning and end..!

5 Jan, 2011

Yes Bloomer that is what you should see, why can some see them and others not does it depend on the operating system, I am using Snow Leopard what are you on?

5 Jan, 2011

Didn't you do well. Forget Iceland this Mum is going to Homebase!!

5 Jan, 2011

squares at the top & hearts just above Dd-- happy planting :o)))--- unless the weather folk have it wrong the weekends looking good here :o)))

6 Jan, 2011

6 Jan, 2011

Amy

Yes I can see 3 hearts Dd , I can see also that you need to replace some of your lost plants although we really don't need much of an excuse to bag a bargain do we :o))

6 Jan, 2011

You took my title Dd, i thought i was the one who bags the best bargains :) Ill have to take a trip to Homebase.. Well done you have some brilliant plants there..

6 Jan, 2011

I am on Mozilla Firefox DottyD...

6 Jan, 2011

Great bargains DD, right place ,right time.
Bloomer....... What percentage proof is that one ? :o))

6 Jan, 2011

Can you get me some & post them to Skiathos. No wnder our clients baulk at the price of plants here! Even the 'native' plants are silly prices! For example you can expect to pay €35 for a boug and €20 for a Yucca...we cheat with these though by just breaking off spurs and sticking them in the ground! Well done you!

6 Jan, 2011

just about high enough,Littlelegs,..or else I wouldn't be able to spell it..or say it! :o)))

6 Jan, 2011

Stars at beginning and end, Dd, very nice they are too...

6 Jan, 2011

Wonderful Dotty, what a wonderful day for you. Wish there was an Homebase around here, would be worth going to have a look around.

6 Jan, 2011

Home base for me tomorrow too!.
Also folks try Wyvale Garden centres, I went to Bridgemere Garden world today, they were selling off all their Hardy outdoor plants reduced by 50%. I also bought a plant which I haven't got a clue what it is so I posted a picture on Garden questions - have a look please.

6 Jan, 2011

I hated driving and don't mind not having a car anymore - until I read a blog like this and want to get to Homebase before everyone else :) You have done well and I'll look forward to seeing your bargains.

I persuaded hubby to call in Homebase on his way home today to see what he could pick up , he walked in with 2 little trays of Polyanthus at .49p each .. it was all they had left LOL......

6 Jan, 2011

There was nothing much at ourGC today, but I did see a new variety of Photina..called Pink Marble..variegated evergreen foliage ,very nice! I didn't have time to look at the label, but will go back and see if it will be suitable in my garden.....I'm sure I can find somewhere for it :o)))

6 Jan, 2011

Wonderful you got such bargains Dotty, hope they all grow well for you and survive these horrible bought s of weather we are getting.

6 Jan, 2011

Annella I dragged them off the desktop in to my comment, have found a lot more so will drive you all mad with them lol..... YDD sorry about taking your title, most unusual for me to get a good deal, I am so happy.
Amy never mind better luck next time. Bloomer I like the sound of that Photinia just what I am looking for too.
Gee Dawn and Sixpence and anyone else thanks for your comments, I shall post pics.❃❃♡♡♡ just a few flowers and hearts to keep you all happy .

7 Jan, 2011

isn't it strange no hearts& flowers-- just squares ( square old me!!)

7 Jan, 2011

How do you get the hearts and flowers etc Dd? Love the umbrellas!
BTW went to Homebase yesterday and bought a Pieris Mountain Fire.....not so cheap as at yours, it was £1.49, still good tho. The Photinias were there too, and good sized Viburnums tinus for £2.99.....may get a couple this weekend...:o))

7 Jan, 2011

As for stars, I was seeing plenty after being headbutted by one of our goats at work!

7 Jan, 2011

Oh dear Geranium, not nice. Janey I have them in my font folder in Mail, so I drag them on to the desktop and then drag them to my comments etc.☀❋❃❃

8 Jan, 2011

I see three hearts. I also visited our Homebase but there was very little left that was reduced.

8 Jan, 2011

Is it ok to be just a tad jealous, DD? You really are the queen on bargains today! Best get planting asap before the cold weather takes its toll again (assuming it's ok to plant them this time of the year...if not, the greenhouse).

8 Jan, 2011

Great for you, DD!! You got some real good bargains there! :-))

As for your "Stars" I see squares, I saw black hearts & white hearts higher up but in your last post I only see squares not hearts. I'm using XP with Firefox.

8 Jan, 2011

I'm on Safari and I see stars. (how often do you make a statement like that? lol)

9 Jan, 2011

Lindak not very often lol.......Whiston they are in the porch which is unheated, except the Yucca which is in the garden room (I gave the other Yucca to elder daughter)
I cannot fathom the hearts and stars thing, I am on a Mac using Firefox, anyone know the answer?☀☀☀

9 Jan, 2011

I think it is the base code the programme uses to show everything. Different codes allow different objects to become visible.I don't know what you've put at the end of your last post!

9 Jan, 2011

Dottydaisy2:

Sounds like you got some great deals there. Look forward to seeing the photos. :>)

10 Jan, 2011

Delonix I was lucky, as the date palm is a fairly mature one, think I may give eldest daughter our smaller one and keep the big one!!
Balcony I put 3 stars. Got a very nice Hellebore from Morrisons today, and it was in flower too.

10 Jan, 2011

Brilliant bargain how nice to think that all those plants will have a flourishing future in your capable hands, can't wait to see pics :)

11 Jan, 2011

Dottydaisy2:

Does it have 12ft/4m of trunk? lol! :>)
A Date palm is mature only when they have that much trunk...then they can bear fruit.

12 Jan, 2011

Seeing stars again: banged head TWICE at work on Tuesday and have a large lump as a reminder!! Not been a good week so far....

12 Jan, 2011

Jewells thanks...I can only hope so.
Delonix...I said large not enormous....lol
Geranium what is going on with all this head banging?

12 Jan, 2011

Dottydaisy2:

It's all relative. There's hundreds of thousands of Date Palms here that are 60ft/18m plus tall. The ones that are 80ft/25m or taller are the ones I consider enormous. lol :>)
