What a lovely surprise for you - I bet it made your day! By the way, I went to an open-air opera performance in Cannizaro park a while back - my daughter sang in it! Yes - a lovely place.

Dierama most definately - I have several :-) I grew them from seed supplied to me via a friend of a friend after yonks of trying to source plants. For some reason you never see them in garden centers. It might be because they are slow to establish and don't usually flower in pots, and therefore don't look very attractive on the shelf at the garden centre! You will need to shop around for these - try plant fairs and large carboot sales. Maybe E-bay? As I say, I found them hard to come by. Also, bare in mind that they take a while to become established - don't expect flowers for a couple of years after planting. Worth the wait tho - they are beauties!
On question - What type of Grass plant?

I think it may be a Dierama, also known as Angels Fishing Rod.
I have a clump in my garden, and they are very pretty

It could be schizostylis coccinea. These flower late summer. I have red and pink, they form a clump send up a long shoot with about 3-5 flowers on it.

The day I become complacent with the wonders of nature will be the day they put me in a box !! Driving into our local town can be hazardous as the view of the mountains, or the wild flower filled verges draw the eyes away from the road.
Enjoy your patch of nature
