After all last year’s rain and the current snow, I though it a good to to ask:

What do you do when you can’t get out in the garden?

I was sorting out shelves that have needed doing for a while but I also did a jigsaw puzzle ~ nice relaxation!
Sometimes I cook ~ makes me feel nice and warm.

:-)

its so icy here its not nice or particularly safe to go out! I had to put salt and grit down all over the place! The garden table was covered in a layer of inch thick ice ~ i took it off eventually ~ still got a complete half standing up in the garden!

I do all those awful jobs that have been piling up during the times when I won't come IN from the garden! Like scrubbing the grouting between the tiles in the shower; tipping out the contents of drawers, sorting, cleaning drawers and replacing or chucking. Once these types of dreadful jobs are done I do all the nice stuff - tucking down near the wood fire with a pile of DVDs; reading; knitting; going to deeper depths and giving myself a challenge with cooking more complicated recipes. In fact I now have to agree with a statement my parents made years ago which, at the time, I thought was silly .... "Once you retire, there are never enough hours in the day!"

Yesterday afternoon I sat sewing up a cardigan that I,d knitted with headphones on litsening to a book being read to me......even the sun came out and glistened on the snow......

In years gone by I painted quite a lot but don't seem to have much enthusiasm to do any at this time,I have made two more Troughs from decking boards these hold about 12 items in each either bulbs or small plants,That now makes a total of Eight.
I am finding plants and bulbs are very happy in these and grow better, require less frequent re planting mostly they are plants that I already had in pots, the theory is to cut back on the number of them !
I feel sure that the reduced variation in soil temperature is playing a part and many plants seem to enjoy the close association of others, but does mean choosing carefully that you don't introduce something rampant.
Soon I intend to convert two more Polystyrene meat boxes into troughs, possible one may house the Sempervivums rather than keeping them in separate pots.

Thanks for reminding me about the polystyrene boxes Bjs, will most things grow in them? I think I may be able to get one and was wondering what would be the best thing to grow in it?

Have inherited a lot of priceless antiques (ha ha) junk most of it, but I live in hope, which I am selling on ebay, takes a long time researching, photographing, and then parceling up.......walk around the garden and take loads of photos which I play around with, and make lots of CAKES which we both eat too much of look at gardens on the computer for ideas......by then it is time for bed!! or a spell on GOY.

I also catch up on the jobs that get put on hold when I can be outside, sorting out cupboards and drawers, I have made a start and been through hubby`s wardrobe, trouble is although tidier I seem to put as much back as both of us are hoarders and don`t like to part with things, bottom airing cupboard was sorted yesterday, top one might get done today if I feel brave enough to fetch the steps, lol....

Stcki almost anything will grow in them, what determines the the plants you grow will be the compost and the location you place the trough in,sun shade windy or otherwise.

Barry and I have been tidying our paintings store to try and add more paintings so that we can swing a cat in the studio. Some of Barry's pictures are nine feet........they have glass and large frames. They are very heavy!! I am very strong Linclass.

mostly I sit and dream/fantasise about what I'd like to do in the garden when I can - this involves going online and checking out the plants on my every-growing lists, deleting some that would be totally impractical, or at least relegating them to another list (maybe one day, but not here ...).

My prob is that I'm very distractable - I can go online to look for something, see something else that looks interesting, find a link on that article that leads to another, and then another link ... turn off PC five hours later and only then realies that I didn't do anything that I'd intended to!
