Devonia at the Spring Equinox

Here we are when day and night are the same length and spring officially starts. This is the busiest time of year in the garden but with the weather being so mild and settled in this part of the country, I am well ahead of where I would normally expect to be with the long list of jobs. So here are some photos so show how my estate looks just now.

This is the front garden

The side of the house – there will be roses here later in the year

These were veg beds until a couple of years ago – now they are too shady so they have been turned into shade beds

The sundial garden. Here you can see work in progress with some of the twenty sacks of oak leaves from neighbouring gardens

View of the back garden from the house. The next job is to tidy all the pots in the pond

Early shot of the spring garden – the mulch of shredded material is down and the camellias are getting into their stride

Maureen has been busy in the foliage garden. The hebe on the left may be a winter casualty (again) but there’s some signs of life low down so we’ll leave it for a bit and see if it recovers.

Life may be hectic just now but stop to enjoy the early spring display before it’s gone for another year.

I like the low hedge around the sundial - are there seats there? it seems a nice, closed-off, private space. And do tell us what's in those bags!

Fran - no seats. This area gets very hot and there a couple of large pots stood on the far side in the summer containing non-hardy shrubs.
There is a seat in another part of the garden - I sat on it to take the photo of the spring garden.
The sacks contain oak leaves from neighbours' trees
