What a big shrub. I have a small new one planted last year. Here in Hungary we have temperatures between -20C and +40C, so we will see whether it copes. My theory is that if they sell it in local garden centres it stands a chance, but with new imports this does not always work. We have lost a few plants or shrubs in severe winter weather, and equally as many in severe heat.

What you have there is Senecio petasitis, found it finally. It is otherwise known as velvet groundsell or Californian geranium and i found a link for you to check it out to see if I have identified it correctly. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/36649

Hope I'm right Andrea

Hi Algardener, does this look anything like it? It is Alchemillia Vulgaris - This is the like long one I know!

Hi Algardener, could you describe the plant for us? What do the leaves feel like, are they thick or thin and papery? The flowers look red on the picture, I assume they open up and turn yellow, what time of year do they do this? Is it perennial and has it popped up year after year. What do the stems feel like, woody or succulent. I have found a Kalanchoe leaf which is an acidy yellow colour like the ones on Algardeners picture Andrew. By the way I'm Andrea not Angela LOL

Now I'm wondering if you've got a kalanchoe? What do our resident houseplant residents think?

No Angela, it's not angelica. Algardener says the flowers are yellow and the angelica has dark purple flowers. And as you say, the leaves are wrong.

Could this be Angelica Gigas? The only thing that makes me wonder is the shape of the leaf, angelica leaves tend to be more divided

Do you think that you could post a close-up photo of the leaves and flowers? It might help.

I tried one of these before but sadly the roots rotted (bad choice of planting site!!) I now have another in a new position and hope it does as well as yours

hi there, i am no expert on rose growing, as i have only recently planted some in my garden, but as a florist i am no stranger to red roses, so i can saggest 3 that this looks like to me, 'Passion' - which is the vallentines rose, 'Deep Secret' - i looked at this one on line and nearly bought it, but i then went for another red rose called 'Ena Harkness' which also looks much like your rose. as i said would not swear by any of these. but you have a lovely rose what ever it's name!
