My dear Goy friends, I copied and past this because of my lack of language: “The 140-hectare park lies at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain, far below the right arm of the statue of Christ the Redeemer and contains more than 6,000 different species of tropical and subtropical plants and trees, including 900 varieties of palm trees. A 750 m line of 134 palms forms the Avenue of Royal Palms leading from the entrance into the gardens. These palms all descended from a single tree, the Palma Mater, long since destroyed by lightning. Only about 40% of the park is cultivated, the remainder being Atlantic Forest rising up the slopes of Corcovado. The park is protected by the Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional and was designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1992.”

I will post another blog about Bromelias, Palms and Cactus, soon.

I love to visit Botanical Gardens. I went to the one in Cambridge a couple of times last year. I'd like to go again & I'd also like to visit others some time.

The Monkey Apricot is a strange but lovely looking flower! There are many strange looking flowers there!

Hi Balcony,
It makes 2 of us, I'm also a Botanical Garden fan. I agree bout the flowers of the Monkey Apricot, very beautiful, the impressive is the size of the fruits, almost the size of a soccer ball!!!

HI Lauram,

Aleyna:

Very gorgeous photos! What a beautiful tropical garden!

I love the Cannonball tree (Couroupita guianensis)...the one you called Monkey Apricot. Unfortunately, this tree is too ultra-tropical to grow in my subtropical climate.

Hi Delonix,

Thank you for your nice comments.
I called by the name was wrote at the identification plake. I never have seen it before, and the name caught my attention of course because is very funny considering the size of the fruit... it should be called Orangutan Apricot.... lol
I certainly didn't pay attention to the scientific name :o)

Aleyna:

I've posted pics of this tree when I went to my family reunion in Hawaii in August of 2009. Foster's Tropical Botanical Garden in Honolulu, HI has a 75ft/25m tall tree.

Here's the pics:

I just love to go to Brazil via your photos. The plants are so unplantable in the Northeast of the US. It gets too cold.

It's wonderful to see what is growing in Botanical Gardens. i should post some too, next time I go to one.

Hi there Wells,
I'm glad you liked it.
The far north I have gone in US was Oregon and Wisconsin, both in winter...Wisconsin is really cold.

However I've seen the most beautiful tulips garden in Madison, WI, during the summer, and the Roses Garden in Portland, OR, is incredible.
