Hi Majeekahead, unfortunately Nabanano Sato garden didn't have a label on this Fuchsia so I'm afraid I don't have any details... but next time I visit the garden I'll find out!

Sassy - It's in a town called Kuwana in Mie Prefacture in Japan. It's almost half way between Tokyo and Osaka. There is a link to the open garden section on the right "Nabanano Sato".
Spritzhenry - hmmm... not sure. I'll find out next time I visit!

As far as I know these trees tend to grow in warm places such as South American countries, Australia and Hawaii. In Japan we have a different flower representing each prefecture (same as a county in England). The flower of Erythrina represents Okinawa which is the most southern prefecture in Japan. I guess it's probably too cold to grow these in England...

Hi Peter, this plant is a Fatsia Japonica, also known as Japanese Aralia. I live in Japan where this is native and is called "Yatsude", meaning 8 fingers. It flowers in the winter and can be trimmed at any time. It is easy to maintain and grows well even in the shade.Feel free to prune it as it will grow back!
