In the summer of 2009 we were visited by a brave courageous and very cheeky little winged fellow. He landed on our fence (some 4 ft away) and just Watched me writing a letter on our patio table. Couldnt believe it he just stared from so close a distance. I thought ok i will acknowledge his presence by smiling with delight. He did,not move but his little leg did. On closer observation his leg was twisted , one toe pointed north and one to the east. This little chap was a flying compass. I put a bread cube on the fence and he just ate it whole but he still stayed there. I had to laugh silently as i uttered " how yer doin?" but he just looked back probably thinking " this guy really is barmy talking to a wood pigeon" then he took to flight. The really odd thing about Scooby the wood pigeon is he brought a pal last summer. If he returns this year we are waiting to lay a party on for him. May stretch to one of my fig bar (LoL). Take care folks enjoy gardening. I will take a snap of scooby if he returns. Enjoy good health Tony

Tony you have described him so well, I can picture him, lol, the pigeons are so clumsy sometimes but oh so comical, we have them living in the hawthorn at the bottom of the garden, they spend ages walking around our garden when the dogs are inside or in the run.
Be nice if Scooby does return but remember the golden rule " Don`t feed him your good lady`s eclair" lol, I think its good to have a chat to our garden visitors, I s`pose my nieghbours either think I`m chatting to myself or have flipped, not sure what the birds think but they cock their little heads and the ones that come onto the patio are always looking in the window, perhaps they think I`m barmy as well, lol.....
You take care and enjoy your garden.....

Hi Tony,

We used to have a female Blackbird, who came when she was called. I named her Nobby - Naughty Old Black Bird - as she would attack any other bird who came near, when she was feeding. It became a sort of party trick, when we had visitors - they couldn't believe that a wild bird would come when she heard her name called LOL.

For the last 8/10 weeks, we have had 2 Ducks visiting several times a day ( Florence & Laurence), but l think that they are taking things a little too far - last week, they brought their 2 mates with them (Maurice & Doris).

Of course we also have Philip the Pheasant and his understudy Peter.

Kind regards, Josie

That's a lovely wee tale, Tony! He knew you wouldn't do him any harm, and were a soft touch on the feeding front, and, as we know too, a lover of all things feathery!
It's surprising how many street pigeons have deformed feet, they say it's car pollution, with them being so near to the exhaust fumes while they're wobbling around on the pavements. I haven't seen any podiatry challenged wood pigeons though, he must have broken it when he was a little chick-a-dee! Hope he does bring his wee mate back with him this year to visit you, and sure, if his wee leg's still bad...he could borrow Capt'n Tiny's pirate crutch to help him about while he's staying with you on his hols! You take care this weekend, and remember to have fun!!

hi lincslass If Scooby makes an appearance then i will have my camera handy. Looks a bit odd having to keep bringing a saucer of crumbs out incase he visits (LoL). Don,t really go for Pigeons but scooby is cheeky and i find that unusual. No eclairs now Lincslass, its either fig bar or rich tea. And that is as long as my goody tin is,nt looted. Take care enjoy Tony
